Ozzy And Sharon Osbourne To Renew Wedding Vows After Nearly Four Decades Of Marriage
It’s been quite the rocky year for Sharon and Ozzy Osbourne. The couple’s year started off with the bombshell revelation that Ozzy cheated on his wife with celebrity hairstylist, Michelle Pugh, according to People. Ozzy’s controversial cheating scandal led to major speculation that their marriage of 35 years was over.
Well, the tribulations only made the couple stronger. Ozzy and Sharon recently revealed their plans to renew their wedding vows for the second time. Sharon, 64, was asked by her husband if they could say “I do” again after the turbulent year.
“Ozzy has asked me to renew our wedding vows and I’d like to… I’m happy and to be honest that’s all I want for Christmas this year.”
The celebrity couple split up briefly in May due to Ozzy’s alleged battle with sex addiction. Sharon dropped off the radar for weeks, before agreeing to return to the judging panel of The X Factor. When Sharon returned from her hiatus, she dove into her work, but looked noticeably frailer.
In the midst of the shocking cheating scandal, Ozzy and Sharon’s youngest daughter, Kelly, 31, got involved and tweeted the alleged mistress’ phone number.
“Anyone looking for cheap chunky LOW-lights a blow out and a b***j** call…”
However, the family unit was strong enough to work through the ordeal. Ozzy even surprised Sharon with a bouquet of flowers on her 64th birthday on live television.
“In my life I have been so blessed but when one side of your life is so brilliant other things can suffer. It is hard when you are both successful and both working away.”
“It is easy to take each other for granted. We have been married for 35 years and been together 38 years. You have to have some ups and downs.”
Sharon and Ozzy have had their “ups and downs,” but have always stuck together. Evidence of this dates back to their youth. The year was 1970 when an 18-year-old Sharon first met Ozzy, who was 22-years-old. Sharon was the daughter of music promoter and rock and roll entrepreneur Dan Arden.
It was during this time that Black Sabbath kicked Ozzy out of the band due to drug use. Sharon took on a manager role and stuck by Ozzy to help launch his successful solo music career. The couple married on July 4, 1982.
Issues plagued the couple from the very beginning of their union. Over the years, reports of physical altercations between the two supposedly took place very regularly, according to the Daily Mail.
In 1989, Ozzy was arrested following a drug-fueled attempt at choking Sharon. The mom-of-three has admitted to helping Ozzy try to kick his addiction to drugs over the past 25 years. The ordeal forced the rocker into rehab, which Sharon saw as a positive step towards their future. Sharon soon forgave Ozzy after he was released, and she refused to press charges.
Ozzy has also stuck by Sharon during her battle with colorectal cancer in 2002. Sharon went on to have a mastectomy in 2012, once she discovered she was at risk for breast cancer. Sharon shared her experiences with People magazine.
“I was going through chemo, and I’d had a massive seizure…[My] blood pressure had floored …going in and out of consciousness… They gave me a blood transfusion, and that didn’t work … and then they gave me the old electric shock treatment – to stop me [from] talking.”
It was during this time that Ozzy got into an ATV accident and was given prescription drugs due to serious injuries. The family made it through this dark time and Sharon went on to become a judge on U.K.’s X Factor from 2004 to 2007 and returned again in 2013.
Ozzy’s son, Jack, has been plagued with health issues of his own. In 2009, Jack Osbourne revealed he had an addiction to Oxycontin. Jack was treated in rehab for the painkiller addiction. Ozzy’s son has been clean since 2003, according to the Daily Mail. Jack has since lost 70 pounds and was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. In 2013, Jack appeared in public for the first time, on The Dr. Oz Show, to open up about his health struggles.
In 2013, Sharon was on the brink of divorcing Ozzy for relapsing on their 30th wedding anniversary. Sharon discussed a therapy session with Ozzy to The Mirror.
“He hated it. When this therapist would bring stuff up he was doing, Ozzy would get angry with me and I was like ‘Don’t get angry with me. You are the f*****r doing it!’ After sessions Ozzy would argue with the therapist: ‘You don’t know me. Why are you saying this? You have never met me.’ He’d come out angry and wouldn’t talk next day.”
Sharon and Ozzy Osbourne hit the mainstream on a reality show unlike any of its kind. MTV’s The Osbournes was a hit worldwide. The reality television show launched both Sharon and Kelly’s hosting careers.
