Entertainment Tonight obtained a copy of the death certificate of Florence Henderson which revealed her cause of death was a heart attack. Per the document obtained by Entertainment Tonight, Florence Henderson’s cause of death may have not been such a shock to those closest to her as she appeared to have been battling serious heart problems for roughly a decade.

The document Entertainment Tonight obtained revealed Henderson had been battling a coronary artery disease for the past 10 years and an atrial fibrillation – also known as an irregular heartbeat – for the last five years.

At the time of her death, Henderson was surrounded by her four children. She had recorded a video earlier this year for an American Heart Association’s campaign called Go Red for Women. The purpose of the campaign was to spread awareness about medical issues related to her cause of death including heart disease and strokes in women. During the video, Florence opened up about her own battled with heart disease.

“I knew as a child that I had a heart murmur. And as I got older, I was experiencing more irregular heartbeats. So finally, I went to a cardiologist about eight years ago and I was in really bad shape.”

Henderson also recalled how she ended up going to the emergency room at Cedars-Sinai in Los Angeles. She ended up undergoing heart surgery and getting the damage to her mitral valve fixed. Florence discussed how fortunate she was to be able to have her valve repaired instead of needing to have it replaced.

“I urge women to have your heart checked. Go to a cardiologist. If I can help one person and save one person’s life, then I’m thrilled.”

The cause of death of Florence Henderson ended up being the same thing she had fought so passionately to raise awareness about. While no one can say for sure what Florence would want, based on her final words in the clip above, it is pretty clear she would want women to use her death as inspiration to go and get their hearts checked.

As fans of The Brady Bunch mom may recall, Florence made an appearance on Dancing with the Stars back in 2010. Just a few days before she passed away, she returned to the ABC reality television show to show her support for Maureen McCormick who was a contestant on Season 23. Maureen McCormick is best known for her role as Marcia Brady – Florence’s daughter – in The Brady Bunch.

Maureen McCormick took the Twitter to express her sorrow for the death of Florence Henderson on the day she passed away. Maureen sent “Loves & hugs” to Florence’s family.

According to ABC News, Henderson outlived Robert Reed – the man who played husband in The Brady Bunch. Reed did not have a “picture perfect” life like the one he had on the set of The Brady Bunch. In fact, Reed kept the fact that he was gay a secret until he passed away in 1992. According to Florence, Reed was a “perfect father” and a “perfect husband” on the set. She, however, did not think he was a very happy person off the set.

“He was an unhappy person … I think had Bob not been forced to live this double life, I think it would have dissipated a lot of that anger and frustration.”

Florence claimed to be aware of Reed’s secret. She also claimed most of the people on the set of The Brady Bunch knew he was gay. It, however, was not something anyone talked about.
