Madonna Thinks Hillary Lost Because ‘Women Hate Women,’ But She’s Absolutely Wrong [Opinion]

Women don’t hate women. Women can tell when other women aren’t telling the truth, though, and a lot of women hate being lied to by other women. There’s a huge difference. In a recent Billboard interview, Madonna said that she knows why Clinton lost her campaign for president.

“Women hate women. That’s what I think it is. Women’s nature is not to support other women. It’s really sad.”

Madonna is wrong. It’s absolutely not in women’s nature not to support other women. I certainly can’t speak for the rockstar’s experience with fellow superstars, but if we’re going to spread around generalities, quite the opposite would likely be generally true of typical women. Women support other women in their communities, in schools, online, and pretty much everywhere, every single day.

That’s not to say that all women will support all other women, of course. Typically women, being individuals, decide which women to support based on the things that individually matter to them.

It’s not that Madonna hates President-elect Trump. In fact, Madonna admitted that she did a photoshoot two decades ago at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago for a Versace campaign. She called him a very friendly and charismatic guy. She did say that his friendliness and charisma was displayed in “that boastful, macho, alpha-male way” though. He was politically incorrect, and at the time, she found it amusing. She just didn’t want him to be our president.

“Of course, I didn’t know he was going to be running for president 20 years later. People like that exist in the world, I’m OK with it. They just can’t be heads of state. I just can’t put him and Barack Obama in the same sentence, same room, same job description.”

Women don’t hate women. If anything, the overwhelming support for Clinton that came from other women, simply because she is a woman, was nauseating. I say this as a woman. I felt incredibly disregarded as an individual thinker during the primary season when females of the Democratic elite variety told women voters that we had no real option except to vote for Clinton over Bernie Sanders because it was high time that Team Female break the glass ceiling.

Grumble. Grumble. Bernie Bros. I’m with her, apparently.

Remember when Madeleine Albright delivered a phrase that she apparently “uttered a thousand times to applause” at a campaign event for Hillary Clinton in New Hampshire?

“There’s a special place in hell for women who don’t help each other.”

Of course, Albright later apologized in a New York Times op-ed. Still, many women knew Albright was only apologizing because the internet exploded in a fury as women felt pressured not to vote for Bernie Sanders, because he walks around with that annoying Y chromosome that apparently automatically tramples on women’s aspirations everywhere. Everytime. (Not to be confused with the extra X chromosome that, according to Madonna, has a tendency to instill a jealousy-based hatred of other humans who also have two X chromosomes.)

“A lot of it has do with jealousy and some sort of tribal inability to accept that one of their kind could lead a nation,” Madonna told Billboard.

Wait, what? Tribal inability? Their kind? And here I thought Bernie Bros were the sexist ones. Look, women aren’t jealous of other women any more than men are jealous of other men. Jealousy is shared abundantly among both genders, unfortunately.

Madonna testified to Billboard that we don’t have a President-elect Clinton because women hate women and women can’t accept the very idea that a woman could lead a nation. That must be why so many of these same women (who refused to vote for Hillary Clinton) are already practically begging Tulsi Gabbard or Nina Turner to run for president in 2020. Because women hate women. Because women are so freakishly jealous of each other that we will sabotage any effort that helps our fellow women rise to power. Because, according to Madonna, we are incapable of rising above some make-believe “tribal inability to accept” women as leaders. Nevermind that matriarchal tribes have always existed and still do. Madonna completely failed to understand this election, if she actually believes that women didn’t support Hillary Clinton because women hate women.

Face it, Madonna, women love the idea of women in charge. Would you say that women Game of Thrones viewers can’t stand Cersei Lannister because women hate the idea of women in power? No. You wouldn’t, because women can’t get enough of Daenerys Stormborn’s rise to power. We simply can’t wait to watch the Mother of Dragons overthrow the corrupt powers that be. And that’s what Hillary represented to so many women: The corrupt powers that be.

Madonna, the powers that be told us that it was time for a woman president. Of course, it is. I can’t wait until the right female candidate comes along.

The powers that be said that Hillary Clinton would make an excellent role model for our daughters. Madonna, did you consider that maybe the “insane amount of women” that you said voted for Trump might feel like Hillary is not the kind of woman that they want their daughters to aspire to be like? Well, obviously, you did. You even told Billboard that the people who voted for Trump in your own inner circle said that they did so, because “they would rather have a successful businessman running the country than a woman who lies.” You just disregarded that idea, because you disagreed.

And another thing, I don’t even believe that the Democrats actually were pining away for a woman president anyway. I think that Clinton represented the establishment to the establishment, and it was really convenient that they could market the whole election like 2016 was the official Year of the Woman POTUS.

“I’m with the establishment,” didn’t pass the early poll tests, I’m guessing.

“I’m with her.” Now, that’s catchy.

Frankly, from the sidelines, one might even deduct that the DNC used Hillary’s gender to their own advantage, but lost.

Many girls start figuring out how to detect other girls’ lies and intentions by kindergarten. From there, many girls skillfully figure out how to recognize which women are really their friends and which women only say that they are. Remember Courtney Love, circa 1995, Madonna? Plenty of women have mastered the art of recognizing when women are simply using them for their own personal gain. Many women find handling an inept alpha male to be much simpler than handling manipulative, untrustworthy women in power.

This is not to say that I am calling Hillary Clinton a manipulative liar. (Though, I’m not saying that she isn’t either.) Millions of women voters claimed to have clearly identified numerous female establishment Democrats lying to benefit Hillary Clinton.

The women who didn’t vote for Clinton weren’t jealous of her. The don’t hate women. They don’t have an epigenetic need to be led by men.

Mostly, they were either afraid of Clinton, lacking faith in Clinton, “misspoken” to by Clinton, insulted by Clinton, or bullied by Clinton’s surrogates.

For what it’s worth, I didn’t vote for Donald Trump, and I am one of the millions of women who supported Madonna’s rise to superstardom. I think it’s awesome that Madonna not only says she is going to help people in need in Malawi, but actually does. Madonna’s foundation is miraculously able to construct entire buildings with the money she raises, just like she says it will.

Madonna says she was “put on this earth to fight for the underdog and fight against discrimination.” Madonna does awesome things all the time. For example, she stands with the Standing Rock Sioux. By the way, Hillary Clinton didn’t.

I’m not here to bring Madonna down. I’m just here to tell her she’s wrong about why so many women voters did not support Hillary Clinton. Call it women’s intuition, but I just know that Madonna will support Tulsi Gabbard or Nina Turner in 2020 with as much fervor as she did Hillary Clinton. They both have that moral compass that Madonna says Trump is lacking. They’d both be “the underdog” candidate that Madonna loves to fight for. Oh! Plus, both Nina Turner and Tulsi Gabbard have two X chromosomes. What more could Madonna (or the Democrats, for that matter) possibly ask for?
