Cyber Monday Steam Deals: Top Five Game Picks

Cyber Monday is just around the corner, and with it, some of the best Steam deals of the year. Here are the top five game picks to check out.

1. Civilization V

Probably one of the most recognizable turn-based strategy (TBS) games in the world, Civ V is on sale dirt cheap. By that, the base game and its expansions are a whopping $9.80 this Cyber Monday, or in other words, 92 percent off. The base game has good reviews, but players still have some complaints about the basic nature of the game, but according to most reviews, the Gods and Kings expansion pack (included) does an excellent job at addressing those concerns. And for under ten bucks right now, it’s a Cyber Monday steal.

2. This War of Mine

This little gem of a game is 80 percent off, a mere $3.99. While not a classic blockbuster like the Civ series, TWoM takes a look at the difficulties of war, but from the perspective of civilians caught in a civil war. The developers mention in the trailer they based the game off the siege of Sarajevo. For anyone curious as to what it might feel like to play through current events in Aleppo for a civilian, it is a good look, especially for having come out in 2014. Hunting for something gritty and challenging that creates excellent stories? Check out This War of Mine this Cyber Monday.

3. Tom Clancy’s The Division

Wanting something a bit newer and more modern this Cyber Monday? Tired of being a civilian in an apocalyptic setting? Try The Division. It is an MMORPG/3rd-person shooter hybrid, and despite some mixed reviews at first, most of the recent Steam reports indicate the developers have listened to the community and improved on the base game. Both the regular and Gold editions are 50 percent off, at $24.99 and $44.99 respectively.

4. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

For a straight up RPG, this Cyber Monday you will find few that rate as highly as this third installment of The Witcher series. Steam describes it as follows.

“The Witcher: Wild Hunt is a story-driven, next-generation open world role-playing game set in a visually stunning fantasy universe full of meaningful choices and impactful consequences. In The Witcher you play as the professional monster hunter, Geralt of Rivia, tasked with finding a child of prophecy in a vast open world rich with merchant cities, viking pirate islands, dangerous mountain passes, and forgotten caverns to explore.”

And that just skims the surface. The Witcher 3 is on sale at 50 percent off at $19.99. Of course, if you want to start at the beginning of the trilogy, the entire set is $22.02. Not a bad Cyber Monday deal for an epic series.

5. Fallout 4

This one has been out just over a year now, so if you decided to wait a while to start up Bethesda’s latest masterpiece (not counting the pretty Skyrim edition), this Cyber Monday is one of the best times to get it. In fact, if you have friends who want it, this is a great way to get them a triple-A game cheap. Well, comparatively cheap. Instead of $60 for the title, Fallout 4 is on sale for just $19.99. The game, season pass, and all expansions (just get the pass) are 40 percent off.

BONUS ROUND

Rimworld is a unique colony building game, where you try and convince your colonists or tribe to survive on a distant planet. Random disasters from raiders and aliens to disease and bugs will afflict your colonists. The most annoying thing is the colonist dude who keeps getting rejected by the cute lesbian and flies into a berserk rage, killing all the puppies. I am not kidding. While Rimworld is not on sale, add it to your wishlist and when it does, grab it.
