Justin Bieber Reportedly ‘Reconnected’ With Selena Gomez During Rehab: Her Hint About Him At AMAs

Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez have sustained a love story that never seems to end, especially when it comes to fans of the pair known as “Jelena.” Although the two seemed to have flipped the switch to “off” in their on again, off again romantic relationship following their war of words on Instagram, some hoped that the two would reunite at the American Music Awards. However, Bieber made his American Music Awards appearance via satellite, while Gomez was there in person, thus avoiding a potentially ultra-awkward encounter.

Traveling throughout the world as part of his Purpose Tour, Justin scheduled his performance at the American Music Awards via satellite, reported the Daily Mail, pointing out that the “long-distance appearance” spared “the Biebs the awkwardness of a potential backstage run-in with ex-girlfriend Selena.”

Gomez and Bieber have been separated in terms of romance, but their virtual battle in August stunned their followers, noted the media outlet. It began when Justin scolded his fans for their hostility toward Sofia Richie, who at the time was his girlfriend. Selena jumped into the online war to side with his Beliebers.

“If you can’t handle the hate then stop posting pictures of your girlfriend lol – it should be special between you two only,” wrote the “Kill ‘Em With Kindness” singer in her message for Bieber. “Don’t be mad at your fans. They love you.”

But the Biebs wasn’t pleased.

“It’s funny to see people that used me for attention and still trying to point the finger this way,” responded Justin.

Gomez has said that “closure” between herself and Bieber has been achieved, with “no anger” between them.

“There’s closure in a very good, healthy way,” said Selena. “‘We’ve seen each other. I’m always encouraging and I am proud of his journey.”

In Touch Weekly told readers earlier this month that Selena and Justin “reconnected” during a phone call while she was in rehab.

“It’s back on for Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber’s rollercoaster relationship — and this time, it’s serious.”

The media outlet cited a source who said that Gomez was “very open” about bringing Bieber back into her life.

And although Justin wasn’t there in person to watch, the American Music Awards turned into an occasion for Selena to make a dramatic and emotional comeback speech after taking time off to focus on her health. Holding back tears as her speech caused others to feel her emotions, Gomez shared what she had learned about herself as a result of her struggles, reported MTV.

Selena received the award for Favorite Female Artist (Pop/Rock), and her acceptance speech revealed her battle with the pressures resulting from her fame.

“I had to stop, because I had everything and I was absolutely broken inside.”

Addressing her devoted fans, Gomez admitted that she “kept it all together enough to where I would never let you down,” but she also shared that she feels she “kept it too much together to where I let myself down.” The “Same Old Love” singer then had a special message for her fans.

“Thank you so much to my fans because you guys are so damn loyal and I don’t know what I did to deserve you,” she added.

Selena also hinted at her relationship with Justin in what E News called a “thinly veiled ode to her seemingly never-ending breakup with Justin Bieber.” The songstress referenced her performance of “The Heart Wants What It Wants” by talking about 2014 (that song is viewed as an “ode” to her relationship with Bieber).

“In 2014, this stage was actually the first time that I was authentically 100 percent honest with all of you,” Gomez shared in that hint. “I think it’s safe to say most of you know my life whether I liked it or not.”

And she also offered up a revelation about what she had learned.

“If you are broken, you don’t have to stay broken.”

E News noted that prior to deciding in August to take a hiatus in order to focus on her health concerns, including “anxiety and panic attacks associated with her ongoing battle with lupus,” the “Kill ‘Em With Kindness” singer has shared her autoimmune disease struggles with fans.

Among those touched by her candor in her AMA speech was Lady Gaga, who reportedly had tears in her eyes as she listened. Gaga’s deceased aunt, Joanne, had lupus, and according to the media outlet, Lady Gaga “has tested borderline positive” for lupus herself.
