Samsung Galaxy S8 Rumors Confirm Snapdragon 835? Latest Specs Here

Recent Samsung Galaxy S8 rumors have emerged once more, and they are extremely encouraging. In the aftermath of the Galaxy Note 7 disaster, Samsung appears to be going for broke, preparing possibly the most formidable flagship device it has ever created. For one, it appears like Samsung would be utilizing the most advanced next-generation mobile chipset from Qualcomm for the Galaxy S8, making the device the first of a new generation of flagship devices.

Headlining the most recent rumors are fresh speculations stating that the Samsung Galaxy S8 would not be equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 830 chip anymore, as previously expected. Instead, a report from Chinese publication Anzhuo has stated that the next flagship device from the South Korean tech giant would carry Qualcomm’s next-generation mobile chipset, the insanely fast and powerful Snapdragon 835.

According to the Anzhuo report, Qualcomm’s latest beast, designated as model number MSM8998, will feature a Kyro 200 CPU that boasts eight cores. It also features the Adreno 540 GPU, allowing the chip to process even the most taxing graphical tasks thrown its way. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 is also reported to be equipped with the chipmaker’s premiere modem, the Snapdragon Z16, which is capable of downloading speeds up to 1Gbps from cellular networks. Unfortunately, the clock rate of the Snapdragon 835 has not been included in the leak, but speculations are high that it would be powerful enough to become the new standard for mobile chipsets next year.

The leak from the Chinese publication further confirmed that the Snapdragon 835 would be constructed from the ground up using Qualcomm’s 10nm FinFET manufacturing process, which is expected to give the chip unprecedented improvements in performance and efficiency. The exact numbers of these improvements have not been officially released, though the Anzhuo leak stated that the Snapdragon 835 would feature up to 27 percent better performance and 40 percent less power consumption than its predecessors. This was referenced by Samsung’s head of its chip-making business, Jong Shik Yoon, in a statement.

“We are pleased to have the opportunity to work closely with Qualcomm Technologies in producing the Snapdragon 835 using our 10nm FinFET technology. This collaboration is an important milestone for our foundry business as it signifies confidence in Samsung’s leading chip process technology.”

Considering Samsung’s own optimistic statement about the Snapdragon 835, the speculations pointing to the Galaxy S8 being equipped with the latest chip from Qualcomm seemed to be on point. With the heart of the S8 most likely equipped with the most formidable Snapdragon chip ever produced, the Galaxy S8 has just become the flagship to beat in 2017. If any, it might end up going above and beyond what its most persistent competitors, such as the OnePlus 4 and the LG G6, could go.

Other rumors about the device are equally encouraging, with speculations pointing to the possibility that the Galaxy S8 would be retiring the flat version of its S flagships. Considering that Samsung already did this with the ill-fated Note 7, there is a good chance that the S8 would really be exclusively offered with Edge configurations only. As for the screen size of the device, multiple rumors have emerged, with the latest pointing to the Galaxy S8 being equipped with a 5.7 or 6.2-inch 4K display. With these rumors in mind, it appears like Samsung is putting a lot of effort in making sure that its next line of flagship devices would be ready for the seemingly upcoming mobile VR revolution.

The device’s RAM and camera are expected to be improved as well, with rumors pointing to the Galaxy S8 having 6GB of RAM and a massively upgraded sensor. According to recent rumors, Samsung would once more boost the megapixel count of its flagship device, equipping it with an 18 to 24MP rear camera with a wide f/1.4 aperture. However, Samsung’s 12MP snapper at the Galaxy S7 is already the best of its kind. Thus, there’s a chance that Samsung would probably just bump the S8’s primary camera to about 13MP. Considering Samsung’s thrust towards creating more efficient batteries, there is a good chance that the Galaxy S8 would be equipped with a huge battery pack as well.

With each new rumor and each new leak, the Galaxy S8 is slowly coming to life. While rumors are still split about the release date of the device, with some pointing to a February 2017 and others pointing to an April 2017 release date, speculations about the Galaxy S8 have so far consistently painted a picture of a smartphone that would definitively be in a class far above its competitors. If Samsung plays its cards just right, the Galaxy S8 would most likely be the world’s top smartphone yet again.
