Avril Lavigne Covers Nickelback Song For New Film

Avril Lavigne will reportedly cover a song by her fiance’s band Nickelback for an upcoming animated feature, The Huffington Post reports.

The tune, “How You Remind Me,” is slated to appear on the soundtrack for One Piece Film Z, the 12th full-length motion picture in the One Piece series. According to One Piece Wikia, Lavigne will contribute two theme songs to the movie, which is slated for release in Japan on December 15. Fans of the series living in the US may have to wait a while for a stateside release date.

NME reports that Avril Lavigne also recorded a cover of the Joan Jett tune “Bad Reputation” for the film. One Piece creator Eiichiro Oda, obviously a fan of the rocker’s music, personally wrote a letter to Lavigne asking her to contribute material to his project. Since this sort of offer doesn’t happen on a regular basis, the Canadian singer agreed to lend her talents to the film.

What’s particularly interesting about Lavigne’s cover of the aforementioned Nickelback song is the fact that frontman Chad Kroeger wrote the tune about his ex-girlfriend in 2003. As uncomfortable as that may sound, apparently the couple don’t have a problem it.

When Lavigne isn’t covering her fiance’s break-up songs for animated motion pictures, the “Sk8er Boi” singer is hard at work on her new album. For the follow-up to her 2011 effort Goodbye Lullaby, Lavigne decided to join forces with fiance and fellow musician Kroeger. The duo will reportedly produce several songs for the upcoming album.

“She worked with Chad Kroeger, who is now her fiance, and they did a really good record,” Epic Records chairman and X Factor judge L.A. Reid explained to Billboard. The album will likely hit retail shelves sometime next year.

Presently, it’s unknown when One Piece Film Z will arrive in North American theaters. Are you looking forward to Avril Lavigne’s cover of the Nickelback song “How You Remind Me?”
