Sarah Hyland Hosting ‘Lip Sync Battle’ Spinoff, Releasing New Album After Boyce Avenue Collab?

Modern Family star Sarah Hyland will be hosting an hour-long spinoff of Spike’s popular show Lip Sync Battle called Lip Sync Battle Shorties. Unlike the original show which features mostly celebrity contestants, the Nickelodeon special will have four ordinary kids lip syncing to their favorite songs.

In a press release, via Hello Giggles, executive producer of Lip Sync Battle Casey Patterson shared that the idea of doing a spinoff came about after seeing how many kids enjoyed the show.

“The happy surprise of Lip Sync Battle has been the reaction from kids and how many of them are watching the series with their families. Lip Sync Battle Shorties is a great opportunity for us to showcase kids’ love of music, comedy and variety.”

Sarah Hyland, who will appear as a contestant on Lip Sync Battle Season 3, is thrilled to be hosting the spinoff. Patterson believed that the Modern Family‘s fun attitude is going to be a perfect fit for Lip Sync Battle Shorties.

“After having such an awesome experience competing on Lip Sync Battle, I jumped at the chance to host Shorties. What could be more fun and exciting to see than the next generation of Lip Sync superstars showing off their sensational skills?” Hyland said in a statement.

Sarah Hyland recently made headlines after she performed an acoustic cover of The Chainsmoker and Halsey’s “Closer” with Boyce Avenue. They also covered “Don’t Wanna Know” by Maroon 5. While some of her fans already know that she can sing, many were still pleasantly surprised with how good her vocals sounded.

E! News, however, pointed out that Hyland has been singing since she was little, even starring in the big screen adaptation of Annie where she sang classics like “It’s the Hard-Knock Life” and “You’re Never Fully Dressed Without a Smile.” In 2006, Hyland made her Broadway debut in Grey Gardens. The Modern Family star also sang alongside Kristen Bell in the 2014 stage adaptation of Hair.

Early this year, Hyland hinted that she could end up releasing an album soon. She shared that her boyfriend, Dominic Sherwood, has always been supportive of her music and encouraged her to write her own music. The Shadowhunters star even bought her her own guitar to help her get started.

“I thought that was really sweet, but I don’t know. Maybe if I start getting bored? I’m not ruling it out!” she said.

Hyland definitely should not rule out releasing an album given the reaction she has been getting from her followers.

Some of the biggest pop stars today, including Selena Gomez, Ariana Grande, and Miley Cyrus, all started out on TV so it may not come as a surprise if Hyland ended up having the same career track.

As reported by Bustle, when Ariana Grande decided to make the switch from acting to singing, she did everything she can to shed the Cat Valentine persona. While they were planning for her “That Way” music video, she insisted that there should be a distinct difference between her and her Nickelodeon character.

“I dyed my hair back to brown. I made out with a rapper in the video. I made the point I wanted to make. And I was excited to do so after so many years of pretending to be somebody else in front of a lot of people,” she shared.

Sarah Hyland has always been known to fans as Haley Dunphy from ABC’s Modern Family. Do you think she needs to change her image like Ariana Grande did? Sound off in the comments below.
