Kendall Jenner On ‘Ellen’: Here Is Why The ‘Kardashians’ Star Deleted Her Instagram Account And Quit Twitter

Kendall Jenner was on Ellen Wednesday after the shocking removal of her account from Instagram on Sunday. While the Keeping Up with the Kardashians star is one of many in the family to gain fame on social media, it appears the second youngest is trying something different.

According to Kendall, it isn’t just another publicity stunt to gain more fame in a family that seems to thrive on it, nor is it the same reason why she has followed in the footsteps of singers like Iggy Azalea and stopped using social media.

Social media has a way of sucking you in to connect with others around the world as you share opinions, photos of everything from yourself to your cats or food, and even links to sites you find interesting. However, it also has a dark side nobody warns you about. Many whose opinions differ from yours on social media, especially on major issues, will often come after you with both barrels blazing for disagreeing.

This dark side is what causes many to delete their accounts, even on Facebook. Often enough, doing so can actually feel liberating, as you don’t have to keep checking in on what people said in response in order to defend yourself from the relentless masses.

Celebrities are becoming more likely to do the same, with some opting to just let their PR people use it for them, and others just not even creating an account.

The Sun had speculated that Jenner had removed her Instagram account over the backlash from ballet dancers over a photo shoot featuring only Kendall.

When Kendall Jenner appeared on Ellen to speak with 58-year-old DeGeneres, she revealed that it wasn’t really the dark side, as much as a feeling of addiction. She called it a “detox” strategy, noting how she found herself always interacting on the internet.

“I just wanted a little bit of a break. I’m always on it. I feel like I would wake up in the morning and I would look at it first thing, I would go to bed and it was the last thing I would look at. I felt a little dependent on it.”

Kendall added that she would be back eventually, according to Daily Mail. For now, she says she feels free to do other things with her time rather than post updates and share photos of herself for the amusement of her fans and followers. Face to face interaction is something she is likely to crave more of outside the internet and its trappings, and it’s generally said to be healthier.

The 21-year-old entertainer claims she was shocked that such a decision would become major news.

“It’s so crazy to me that it even became huge news like that. I mean I guess I didn’t expect it but I also took my Twitter off my phone. I didn’t delete my Twitter entirely but I took the app off my phone so I had no idea anyone was even talking about it and I honestly didn’t think anybody would care.”

It is likely revelations such as this could explain why many Disney stars lose touch with the reason for their fame and spiral into issues they couldn’t easily recover from. Amanda Bynes and Lindsay Lohan are two of the most famous examples of this, both having made headlines every time they did unusual things in recent years. Celebrities don’t get away with doing what others outside their groups do because people are always watching.

Kendall Jenner also told Ellen about a new member of the family, and she spoke about her infant niece who is less than a year old and already famous. She gushed about baby Dream, daughter of her half-brother, Rob Kardashian, and she told the talk show host that she’s so happy to see Rob happy.

Don’t worry, Kendall followers. She will be back on Instagram eventually, but for now, she feels the need to enjoy life in the real world.
