Stop Telling Hillary Clinton’s Supporters To ‘Get Over It’ And ‘Accept The Election Results’ — Anti-Trump Protests To Continue [Opinion]

Seven days ago, Hillary Clinton conceded and congratulated Donald Trump as the winner in the 2016 presidential race, CNN reports. It was and still is tough for her supporters to accept that she lost the race. What makes it even harder to accept is the fact that she won the popular vote, yet Trump won the electoral college votes. It fueled a battle between the Republicans and Democrats, and neither party is willing to back down and compromise to bring unity.

“Just Get Over It—And Accept The Election Results”

Donald’s supporters have ridiculed the anti-Trump protesters. They have been told to “get over it” or “to accept the election results.” For many Clinton supporters, “getting over it” is not an option. It isn’t as simple as accepting that they lost the race. For them, it is a much bigger issue at work.

Team Hillary believed that she was going to make America a better place. They believed in her and cannot accept that the election is over for her. Most of all, they don’t think that Donald Trump defeated her. They want a vote recount. They want the electoral college to side with them, voiding Donald Trump’s presidency. They want President Obama to find a loophole that would make Hillary the 45th president of the Untied States.

Is it rational to believe that Hillary Clinton could be that one president who lost the electoral college vote but wins the popular vote — and still becomes the 45th President of the United States?

We understand we aren’t thinking rational. However, we will not accept Donald Trump as our leader and agree to work with him. That is what we mean when we chant that “he’s not our president.”

“Take Me Back To The Good Old Days”

We wanted Hillary. We wanted the Democrats to win. We wanted women to retain their rights to have an abortion if they felt it was needed. We wanted the LGBT community to continue not to live in fear that their rights or their children would be would be taken away. We wanted America to progress, not lead us back to “the good old days.”

The “good old days” the Republicans speak so highly of was a time of turmoil for many people. Many people were killed for speaking their minds. Women didn’t have the right to vote. Black citizens were hung for no other reason but making eye contact with a white man.

Is this what will happen to America again? Is this what “make American great again” means?

Protests Will Not Stop

Regardless of whether you agree with the protests, I think we can all agree that they likely will not stop. Bernie Sanders begged the protestors to stop and “accept Trump’s presidency.” They refused. Clinton called for the nation to unify and accept the election results. Even so, the anti-Trump protests continued.

No one is listening. Donald Trump doesn’t have any political experience. He vows to take away many of our rights away. He doesn’t respect women. What’s more, he has divided our country in a way that no other so-called “leader” ever has.

How Does This End?

On December 19, the electoral college will meet to decide whether Donald Trump will become the next president of the United States, the Washington Post reports. Many are hoping they will choose to make history and crown Hillary the winner, but it isn’t likely. Trump will become the president, and at some point, Clinton’s supporters will have accept defeat.

Are we ready to accept that we are stuck with Donald Trump for the next four years? Do you think the electoral college will make history and void his presidency?

Hillary’s supporters are trying to deal with her loss in their own way. Just don’t brag that Donald won the election “fair and square” and demand we “get over it.” That’s one of many things that is fueling the division in our country.
