Chris Soules Doesn’t Understand Why ‘Bachelor’ Producers Keep Asking Him To Give Advice To New ‘Bachelor’ Stars

Chris Soules admits his stint on The Bachelor was a failure, so he’s totally confused by the fact that producers want him to give advice to this season’s leading man, Nick Viall. According to People, the Iowa farmer, affectionately known as Prince Farming, will be making a cameo on the upcoming season of the ABC dating show for the sole reason of giving Viall some tips.

“I will be on Nick’s season giving him advice,” Soules recently told reporters. “I don’t know why they’re having us give advice when we’ve been unsuccessful on this journey.”

It’s interesting that Bachelor producers have tapped Chris Soules to give advice to Viall, considering his own go around on the ABC reality show ended with a broken engagement. Then again, last season, Chris Soules appeared on Ben Higgins’ edition of The Bachelor alongside former (albeit successful) Bachelors Sean Lowe and Jason Mesnick to give advice to Higgins. Soules told Today.com that he initially told Higgins to trust his instincts throughout The Bachelor process.

“We talked a little bit and I was able to give him some advice,” Chris revealed. “There were a lot of things, a lot of little details we talked about, but the main thing was just going with your gut. Be prepared for the unexpected.”

Chris Soules, 35, ultimately proposed to Whitney Bischoff on the 19th season of The Bachelor, but the couple broke things off seven months later. Bischoff announced her engagement to fiancé Ricky Angel over the summer, while Soules remains single. Soules previously told Us Weekly that he is back on the market but not in a serious relationship at this time.

“I’m just casually dating,” Chris told Us last fall. “I don’t know that I have a specific person that I’m looking for. I think that in general, it’s someone who makes me a better person, makes me happy, makes me laugh, and shares a common interest, so I don’t know if there’s a big stereotype with that.”

While he may not feel qualified to give Nick Viall advice, Chris Soules and Viall have a few things in common. In addition to being Bachelor leads, both men dated franchise alum Kaitlyn Bristowe during their seasons of the show. And in recent months, these two ABC alums have developed a major bromance. Soules and Viall met up at Bachelor in Paradise lovebirds Jade Roper and Tanner Tolbert’s wedding last summer, and they also hung out together at a Dancing with the Stars taping.

With his latest ABC cameo, Chris Soules continues to expand reality TV resume. In addition to his starring stint on Season 19 of The Bachelor, Chris competed on the Season 20 of Dancing With the Stars, where he was partnered with Witney Carson. Soules also turned up on the Food Network reality show Worst Cooks in America, going up against other clueless celeb cooks including Dean Cain, Jaleel White, Barry Williams, Kendra Wilkinson and Jenni “J Woww” Farley in a cooking “boot camp.” Most recently Chris made a camping trip cameo on The Bachelor spinoff, Ben & Lauren: Happily Ever After?

While he’s a seasoned reality TV vet now, Chris Soules has always said he wants to stick to farming.

“I’m glad I did it, but I can’t say I’d do it all over again,” Soules told Today of his time on The Bachelor. “I don’t care about TV, I don’t care about the celebrity. That’s not what my goal in life is.”

You can see Chris Soules give Nick Viall advice when The Bachelor returns Jan. 2 at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
