Latest U.S. Immigration Reform News Today And Updates: Donald Trump And Associates Reveal Changes To Expect

A Donald Trump presidency is bound to have a significant impact on immigrants currently residing in the United States. And for illegal immigrants, there is justified fear for the U.S. immigration reforms Donald Trump is likely to undertake. This is considering the promise he made earlier on in his campaign to build a “great” wall along the U.S., Mexico border to deter illegal immigrants from entering the country and the pledge to deport millions of undocumented immigrants from America.

It is a rude reality for U.S. immigrants, considering that many came to America looking to better their lives, in many cases running away from hardships in their countries that range from poverty, war, and sometimes just immense violence and lawlessness. The following is an excerpt from the Washington Post illustrating the hopelessness many immigrants felt when Donald Trump won the presidential elections.

“Trump’s victory came a shock to many Americans. For undocumented immigrants, however, their futures have taken a startling turn, from the promise of immigration reform under Hillary Clinton to the threat of deportation under Trump.”

“‘Under the Trump administration, the level of fear and anxiety among undocumented people will only get deeper and more prevalent,’ said Vargas the founder and chief executive of Define American. On Election Day, a man who recognized Vargas outside of Fox News patted him on the back. ‘Get ready to be deported,’ the man told Vargas, who described himself on Facebook as ‘rattled” by the encounter.'”

Another undocumented immigrant, Brenda Barrios, had to help her son Frankie cope with the reality of a Donald Trump win. This is after she let him stay up late watching the election results pour in. At one point, when Trump’s growing lead was illustrated by a map indicating red states, he asked his mom if Trump was going to become president and her only answer was for him not to worry. But when he woke up in the morning and learned Donald Trump had won, Frankie burst into tears as he couldn’t bear having his mother torn away from him. The following is an excerpt from the site explaining this.

“‘He [Frankie] is afraid his mom is going to be sent to another country,’ she said. For Barrios, that pain is all too real. Her parents immigrated illegally to the United States when she was 5, leaving her and her sister behind in Guatemala. When she and her sister joined them in 2003, Barrios finally felt like she had a family. But it didn’t last. Her father was deported in early 2005. Barrios’s mom went with him. She hasn’t seen them since.”

Presently, Donald Trump has included in his transition team individuals who have previously called for tougher immigration reforms designed to deter immigrants from staying or attempting to enter the country. One of them is Kansas’ Secretary of State, Kris Kobach. According to NBC News, he has already stated that the Mexico border wall will be built and the only question remaining is “who helps pay for it.”

On what will happen to the 11 million undocumented immigrants in the United States, Rep. Chris Collins of New York, a close associate of Donald Trump predicts some sort of legalization procedure. That said, Donald Trump has just highlighted during his first interview since winning the presidential election that about 3 million immigrants are going to be deported soon, but will be mainly those with criminal records. The following is his actual statement on this while in an interview with 60 Minutes.

“What we are going to do is get the people that are criminal and have criminal records, gang members, drug dealers, where a lot of these people, probably two million – it could be even three million – we are getting them out of the country or we are going to incarcerate.”

Going by the highlighted forecasts by people close to Donald Trump, they have so far been proven true through his own statements. And on this basis, hardworking, law-abiding immigrants are likely to be provided with the means to stay in the U.S. You can check out the latest Donald Trump U.S. immigration reform news update clip below.
