The Walking Dead 302 "Sick" Recap

The Walking Dead’s Episode 302, “Sick” allowed us more insights into just how far Rick and the others are willing to go in order to keep their group safe.

Caution: major spoilers ahead…

Last week we learned our group has more than Walkers to contend with inside the prison. A group of inmates has been hiding out in there all this time. This week’s The Walking Dead, “Sick,” opened with Rick, T-Dog and Daryl doing everything they could to keep these new adversaries at bay while Glenn and Maggie helped rush Hershel back to their secured cell block.

Once there it was up to Carol and Lori to ensure he didn’t succumb to infection while they waited to see if severing his leg had worked. Carol really proved herself tonight. Not only did she keep Hershel safe and infection-free, but she also set about learning how to perform a successful cesarean section (on a She-Walker guinea pig!) in the event she’d have to deliver Lori’s baby. Luckily Hershel survived his ordeal, but I can’t say the same for the prisoners.

They made a deal to split what was left of their food supply in exchange for assistance in clearing another cell block. But that wasn’t good enough for the brutal Tomas (Nick Gomez). After making a play to try and murder Rick by throwing a Walker in his way Rick finally had enough and took him out (awesomely!). The two prisoners that remain, Axel and Oscar (played by Lew Templeton and Vincent Ward, respectively) are now left to share the secured block. The sadness in their faces made me feel for these guys. I wonder how long it will be before they try to join our group just to have more company.

Other highlights from tonight’s The Walking Dead “Sick”: episode 302 let us see more fantastically creepy, Emmy award winning zombie magic. Rick and Lori’s marriage remains as fractured as ever. But Carl? That kid is seriously becoming a mini-badass!

  1. Solid episode. Carl is definitely becoming a lot more self-sufficient and a contributing member of the group, but at the cost of his relationship with his mother. He's definitely siding with his father in terms of everything it seems, and I think it's going to eventually cause Lori to lose it. I'm glad Rick knew what he had to do in terms of the long-haired prisoner. There was no way they could both co-exist in that prison. All in all a solid episode, can't wait until next week.
