Lindsey Vonn Has Another Crash In Ski Practice, Severely Breaks Arm

At this rate, Lindsey Vonn is going to be bionic by the time the next Winter Olympics rolls around. On a practice run Thursday in Copper, Colorado, Lindsey Vonn crashed and broke her arm so badly that it required hardware to put it back together in a Vail, Colorado, hospital.

Just over a year ago, Lindsey Vonn had a training crash in New Zealand and fractured her ankle, says the Inquisitr. Vonn had just gotten back from rehabbing another injury and a breakup with golfer Tiger Woods, and was training in New Zealand doing some summer skiing down under. Vonn bounced back, saying that she would continue working out off the slopes as soon as her ankle healed and she could get back into a ski boot. Though she has been accident prone, Lindsey was in one of the best shapes of her career.

TMZ Sports broke the news that Lindsey Vonn took yet another spill on the slopes, and this time picked up new hardware in the form of metal, not medals. Vonn broke her humerus, cracking it to the point that they had to put in a plate and some screws in surgery. But as usual, Vonn says as soon as she can, she will be back in the gym.

“I will work my hardest to be back on the slopes as soon as I can, as I always do. Thanks for all your continued support.

The Washington Post says that Olympic gold medalist Lindsey Vonn really did a job on her arm, which will put her World Cup season on hold. Vonn posted proof on social media, sharing her x-rays before and after surgery, and even the most stoic person would have to say ouch.

“Unfortunately, yesterday I crashed while training in Copper and severely fractured the humerus bone in my right arm. I had successful surgery last night in Vail and everyone took great care of me. While I am beyond frustrated by this latest setback, at least my knees are ok and I will return to the slopes as soon as possible.”

Vonn says that she wants to return to the gym and the slopes as soon as possible, but did not give a timetable. Vonn has already missed this season’s World Cup opener in Soelden, Austria, last month. Vonn has said she was disappointed she wasn’t competing in the giant slalom races at Soelden. Ultimately she decided to concentrate her training in two other disciplines — downhill and super-G. Lindsey Vonn won a gold medal in 2010 Olympics in the downhill.

The first downhill race of the season is November 29 at Lake Louise in Canada. The first super-G is the following week.

According to the New York Times, it is unclear and unlikely that Lindsey Vonn will be able to recover in time for the World Cup season which starts this month in Canada. With past injuries, Lindsey Vonn charged into the gym for physical therapy as soon as possible, but Vonn did not say when she expects to return to training.

While Vonn’s fearlessness has often paid off with medals, it has also landed her in the hospital and under the knife. But Vonn keeps bouncing back, and boasts that she is the only skier of her generation still at it.

“I’m the last one standing of my generation of racers.”

Do you think Lindsey Vonn will be back to ski racing in December?
