Tom Hanks ‘F-Bomb’: Parents Television Council Responds

The Parents Television Council is very upset with Good Morning America for “allowing” Tom Hanks to drop the “f-bomb” live on the show Friday morning.

PTC director of public policy Dan Isett said in a statement:

“Once again, a morning news show has allowed the harshest profanity to be broadcast into every living room and breakfast table in the country. This is just another in a long, sad string of similar instances where all of the major network morning shows have permitted this inappropriate and offensive content. These cannot and must not be dismissed as ‘mistakes,’ and it’s time for the networks to step up, take responsibility for what they broadcast, and ensure that this never happens again.”

Hanks accidentally said the “f-word” after Elizabeth Vargas asked him to pretend he was a character from his upcoming movie Cloud Atlas. Hanks then delivered a line with a foreign accent that contained the word “f**k.”

Hanks and Vargas both apologized to the audience, and Hanks joked that there would be a seven second delay the next time he came on the show.

ABC later released a statement about the incident and said the show had been corrected for later feeds.

Considering how embarrassed both Vargas and Hanks were after the slip, why the PTC believes that GMA allowed Hanks to say the word — as if it were all premeditated — is anyone’s guess. Isett posted on his Facebook page that he got a “nice little Fox News hit” but really wished “the networks would stop doing this.”
