Rob Lowe Calls The U.S. Election A ‘Sh*t Show,’ More ‘Subtle And Authentic’ Than ‘West Wing,’ And Why His Roast Focused More On Ann Coulter

Rob Lowe is joining the ranks of celebrities encouraging their fellow Americans to cast their vote in the upcoming presidential election.

And with Will Ferrell calling the U.S. election a “sh*t-storm,” Rob Lowe expressed similar sentiments when he referred to the election as a “sh*t show” that makes House of Cards seem “subtle and authentic.”

And he would know, given that he played the role of Sam Seaborn, Deputy White House Communications Director, in The West Wing.

In other news, Rob Lowe is the latest celebrity to be roasted on Comedy Central Roast, a celebrity roast where a famous personality is roasted and teased in a good-natured way by other prominent figures. During his roasting, Rob Lowe confronted a number of celebrities, including Jimmy Carr, Pete Davidson, Nikki Glaser, Jewel, Peyton Manning, Ann Coulter, Ralph Macchio, and the Roastmaster David Spade.

However, it turned out that the roastees used the event as the perfect opportunity to take a dig at Ann Coulter, the conservative author who defended Donald Trump in her book, In Trump We Trust: E Pluribus Awesome!. Many Hollywood celebrities vehemently oppose Donald Trump’s presidential run due to his views and controversial political rhetoric. So, it wasn’t surprising to see a number of roastees attacking the author when she tried to promote her book on the show.

Ann Coulter was comically criticized on various issues, including gay marriage, immigration, and her books. In fact, according to Entertainment Weekly, Rob Lowe also took a turn to criticize Ann Coulter for her views on immigration and for supporting Trump’s controversial views.

“Ann has never had kids. She is so anti-immigration; her vagina won’t allow any more in the country.”

Later, the Masquerade actor admitted he was rather hesitant in facing Ann because she was clearly uncomfortable with all the negative remarks against her. However, Peyton Manning, former football player, came to his rescue by encouraging him to make use of his peripheral vision. According to People magazine, Rob Lowe recalled Peyton’s advice while appearing on Chelsea, the web television talk show.

“Brother, you can’t look at her. You know the defense. I just kind of peripheral everything because otherwise, you know, I’m going to get hammered by it.”

Obviously, the author was unimpressed by the sarcastic comments directed towards her, and she was quite stunned when, during his bantering, Jimmy Carr asked her to kill herself. According to Entertainment Weekly, an irritated Ann Coulter’s remarks confirmed that the Trump-defender felt the roastees were targeting her instead of Rob Lowe.

“I want to welcome everybody to the Ann Coulter roast with Rob Lowe.”

Even though Ann Coulter ended up being roasted more than Rob Lowe, the Young Blood star also had his fair share of bitter criticism. In his earlier years, Rob Lowe earned the reputation of a Hollywood bad boy when a videotape showing the actor having sex with a minor girl surfaced in 1988. In 2006, the actor filed a lawsuit against the family’s former nanny, who had accused the actor of sexually harassing her. According to People magazine, David Spade, the Roastmaster, taunted Lowe by reminding the actor of his infamous sex scandal.

“Rob came up at a time when a sex tape could really ruin your career. But Rob had to do it the hard way: with his acting.”

Despite the negative life experiences Rob Lowe has faced, today he lives his life with a renewed positive outlook. Being the descendant of a family with a history of cancer, Lowe has become an ardent activist in the movement against cancer. In an effort to raise awareness and provide support to cancer patients, the popular actor has joined the Cancer Hope Network.

He has also established himself as an accomplished writer, writing such books as The Eccentric Universe, Stories I Only Tell My Friends, and Socs and Greasers. Lowe has also written a book titled Love Life, in which he shares real life experiences pertaining to family, relationships, marriage, romance, sex, arts, and commerce. Even though Rob Lowe has reinvented himself, his roast was mostly focused on his controversial past.
