Kendall Jenner Goes From Fashion Model To Fashion Photographer

Kendall Jenner has been gracing the runways and covers of magazine for the past few years now. The reality star has turned into a global supermodel. Now, Kendall is trying her hand at both fashion photography and model hunting.

Kendall Jenner is partnering up with Love Magazine’s editor chief Katie Grand to find the next big cover girl. She wants to go behind the scenes and help scout the model and take her photos. According to Jenner, the chosen model will be “this generation’s next icon kinda like me but a little less good,” reports the Los Angeles Times.

Love Magazine made the announcement on its website on Sunday night, Oct. 9. The casting call is available to anyone between the ages of 15 and 35. Applicants are asked to submit a photo of themselves along with basic information via social media. The winner will be photographed by Jenner herself for the cover of Love Magazine.

According to a press release from the magazine, Grand and Jenner will make a shortlist of 20 finalists, who will be flown down to L.A. in mid-November to be photographed by the model and interviewed for the cover story. The Spring/Summer 2017 issue of Love Magazine will be available on newsstands in February 2017.

Jenner has some experience with the modeling world. She previously photographed Kaia Gerber for Love and has appeared in front of the camera for several publications, including the September 2016 cover of Vogue. Jenner shot the 14-year-old for the “American Beauties” issue, in which the model poses in a grassy field with her signature brunette hair parted down the middle, as noted by Hollywood Life. Not only did Jenner shoot the stunning shots of the young aspiring model, but she also styled her, as well.

Kaia revealed to W magazine in the past that she looks up to Kendall. She also revealed what other models she finds as a source of inspiration for her own modeling career.

“I really look up to Kendall Jenner. I think she’s really professional, and I know her a little bit, and she’s so sweet. I think to be at the level she’s at but be super chill and down to earth. And then Gigi and Bella [Hadid] both grew up in Malibu and actually did the same high school program we’re doing, so I think it’s cool to see them flourish. And I really look up to Karlie Kloss – she’s the nicest human being in the world. And then probably just my mom [Cindy Crawford].”

Back in May, Kendall shot a series of Instagram photos she shot of Kylie Jenner, North West, and friend Moises Arias. All three of the black-and-white photos were captioned with the person’s name and crediting Kendall as the photographer, reports Harper’s Bazaar.

Kendall Jenner isn’t the only one who’s becoming a photographer nowadays. Her friends Bella and Gigi Hadid are also trying their hands at editorial work, according to W Magazine. Bella shot her first major editorial with W when she volunteered to take photos of her family friends, Jesse Jo Stark and her mother Laurie Lynn at the Chrome Hearts headquarters in Los Angeles.

A few weeks later, Gigi Hadid shot photos for V magazine during New York Fashion Week in September. According to the publication, models starting secondary careers is not a new and foreign concept. In addition to Bella, Gigi, and Kendall, British model Suki Waterhouse, Chanel model Louise Parker, and upcoming model Radhika Nair, are just some other models who are choosing to work behind the scenes.

All three models have huge followings on Instagram for their well-curated photos. Jenner, 20, revealed the secrets behind her Instagram success earlier this year. She admitted her strategy to posting to Instagram is that it “has to be organic.” When asked what she means by the term, Jenner responded, “It means you can’t totally plan it out.”

She went on to explain that her Instagram post that received the most likes of 2015 – 3.5 million likes – where she’s seen lying on the floor with her hair arranged into heart-shaped patterns. Kendall revealed that the photo was taken on a yacht while her hair was styled by Gigi, Bella, and Hailey Baldwin. She admits that the photo was purely accidental and that she wasn’t thinking about the “likes” when she posted it.
