DaMarques Johnson Cut From UFC After Losing Streak

DaMarques Johnson has been dropped from the UFC roster, just weeks after his loss at UFC on Fuel 5, MMA Fighting reports.

Johnson (16-12 MMA, 4-6 UFC), who was the runner-up on The Ultimate Fighter 9, was on a three-fight losing streak prior to his release. He fought Gunnar Nelson (10-0-1 MMA, 1-0 UFC) on September 29 on just 12 days notice, after Pascal Krauss (10-1-0 UFC) was forced to pull out after receiving a knee strike to the ribcage during sparring practice. Nelson dispatched Johnson quickly in the first round with a rear-naked choke.

Prior to his loss to Nelson, Johnson was knocked out by Mike Swick in the second round at UFC on Fox 4 on August 4. He lost his fight to John Maguire on April 14 at UFC on Fuel by submission in the second round.

Johnson confirmed his release from UFC on Twitter. “And the hits keep on coming… No longer a UFC fighter,” the Salt Lake City native said. He seemed to handle the news pretty well, however, and thanked his fans for their support.

The 30-year-old tweeted, “Its a small detour. Not the end of the road. I got brains in my head&feet in my shoes.”

Johnson isn’t the only fighter to lose his job this week. Lightweight Shane Roller (11-7-0 UFC) has also been released. Roller tweeted Monday, “Looks like I’m hanging up the gloves for good. It was fun, but time to move on. Sux that it ended like that. Now startn the next chapter!!”

Roller lost four of his last five fights, with his last loss to Jacob Volkmann (15-3-0 UFC) by a neck crank in the first round at UFC on FX 5 last week.

What do you think of DaMarques Johnson and Shane Roller being released from the UFC?
