Taylor Swift Was ‘Brutal’ To Calvin Harris After Split, Says John Newman

Other than those tweets and his GQ cover story, Calvin Harris has since kept the details of his split from Taylor Swift a secret. Now, friend and frequent collaborator John Newman is revealing all in a new interview with The Sun on Sunday newspaper.

Calvin Harris and John Newman have worked together on the DJ’s rumored breakup song “Olé.” Newman revealed that Swift was “brutal” to Harris during their split. The couple’s split got messy earlier this summer when Newman tweeted that Swift ghost written Harris’ hit single “This Is What You Came For” featuring Rihanna, which caused a war between the former lovers over why she didn’t originally receive credit on the song.

“From her side? Yeah, it did get brutal,” Newman admitted, as cited by The Mirror. “I’m like Calvin, happy to take a back seat. I like my music to do the talking. When I tweeted that, there was a text almost immediately from Calvin. He was like, ‘Down. Now.’ And then it all came out anyway. No I’m not [friendly with Taylor anymore], I don’t agree what’s gone on … but I shouldn’t comment further. I wouldn’t know her well enough, weirdly. She’s in another world.”

Despite their messy split, Newman revealed that he’s still a fan of Swift’s music. He also said that her next album will top the charts, regardless whether she addresses her relationship with Harris or not.

“I really like her music so they’ll be great songs either way. But I’ve had uncomplimentary things sung about me by exes. You get on with it.”

When it was announced that Swift had co-written the song, Harris took to Twitter to write a series of tweets directed towards his ex-girlfriend. He even accused the pop star of trying to “tear him down” through the media. Newman revealed that Harris told him to delete the tweet because the couple originally hoped to keep their collaboration a secret.

The 32-year-old music producer won Best Male Video at the 2016 MTV Video Music Awards last month for the song, but he didn’t mention Swift in his acceptance speech.

Calvin Harris and John Newman worked together on Harris’ new single ” Olé,” which has been rumored to be about his relationship with Swift. Reports speculated that Harris wrote the diss track to fire back about Swift’s newfound relationship with Tom Hiddleston. Some even believed that Harris hinted that his famous ex-girlfriend cheated on him with her then-boyfriend, whom she met at the Met Gala back in May.

“Low-key, you won’t tell none of your friends about me,” one of the lyrics go. “Low-key,” as TMZ reported, may be a smart homonym for Hiddleston’s Marvel villain, Loki in the Thor movies.

“I see online that you’ve begun to be a good girl and take trips with your boyfriend/Being attentive, continue to pretend,” Newman is heard singing over a tropical beat. “You’ve hidden my name on your phone so you can call me to tell me you’ve been going through hell/Left him alone and you booked in a hotel.”

Harris and Newman’s last collaboration was 2014’s “Blame,” which he released on his last album, Motion. Newman never admitted if ” Olé” was really about Swift, but in his last interview with The Sun, he revealed that Harris doesn’t need to be in another relationship so soon.

“He doesn’t need anybody,” Newman admitted, according to People. “His emotions are so strong, he’s so strong minded. He’s a one-man train who is never going to stop. The limits are literally endless for him.”
