Joss Whedon Reveals Which Avenger Should Be President

Over the last week, Joss Whedon has made it perfectly clear that he’s not a big fan of Donald Trump and that he will, in fact, be voting for Hillary Clinton in the upcoming U.S. presidential election.

On Friday, Joss Whedon took to Facebook to discuss politics and the election, but most importantly to encourage people to register and then vote. As the writer and director of both The Avengers and Avengers: Age Of Ultron, though, questions rather obviously soon started to incorporate the likes of Iron Man, Hawkeye, Black Widow, Captain America, and The Hulk.

In fact, one of the questions thrown Whedon’s way asked the filmmaker which Avenger he would like to see become President of the United States. Whedon’s answer was rather surprising, though, but actually makes sense when you think about it.

“Which Avengers should be president? I think I’ll have to go with Hawkeye,” Whedon declared. But why? Thankfully, Whedon had some rather impressive points as to why Hawkeye, who is otherwise known as Clint Barton, the master marksman who always carries a bow and arrow with him, and can pretty much shoot down anyone, anywhere with his weapon, would make such a good leader of the free world.

“He’s a man who is grounded,” Whedon insisted. “He not only has value, but he has a family — an actual family. He actually interacts with human people in a normal way. He has children he wants to protect. Every other Avenger? Let’s face it: They’re a little out there. They’re a little bit disconnected from the real world.”

It was revealed in Avengers: Age Of Ultron that Clint Barton actually had a wife and two children, which immediately set him apart from his fellow Avengers, each of whom live a somewhat solitary, bachelor-like life. However, many Marvel and Avengers fans might be a little surprised and disappointed that Steve Rogers/Captain America was overlooked, especially considering just how popular his third solo outing earlier this summer was. But considering Steve Rogers’ devotion to Bucky Barnes, it’s unlikely that he could be trusted to have America’s best interests at heart if his best friend was in trouble.

But what about the rest of The Avengers? Well, Joss Whedon gave pretty resolute reasons why both Tony Stark and Bruce Banner would make for lackluster presidents, with Stark’s love of his bachelor lifestyle meaning that he doesn’t come across as overly presidential.

“Definitely don’t want Tony Stark to be president,” Joss Whedon continued. “He may be the smartest guy there — and although I love Bruce Banner — I’m thinking as we’ve seen in this election cycle [that] somebody with a really bad temper is maybe not the best choice.”

Earlier this week, Joss Whedon also took to Twitter to share a video that he’s collected alongside a cohort of his celebrity friends for SaveTheDay.vote, which encouraged his followers to vote in the upcoming election. You can watch the video in its entirety by clicking below.

Meanwhile, Joss Whedon has also uploaded various tweets about the upcoming presidential election, too, each of which made it perfectly clear who he will be voting for:
