Selena Gomez Struggles Amid Drug, Rehab, ‘Breakdown’ Claims: Does Justin Bieber Still Care?

When Selena Gomez first announced that she was canceling her tour as a result of anxiety and depression, which she linked to her previous diagnosis of lupus, fans waited to see if her on-again, off-again boyfriend Justin Bieber would show any signs of concern. The two had previously been involved in a social media war. But despite Selena’s shocking announcement, no hint of any concern from Bieber surfaced.

Since her first revelation about canceling her tour, rumors have swirled, with some claims that in addition to lupus, Gomez is struggling with drugs and even has checked into rehab.

Radar Online reported that soon after Selena canceled her tour, she was “forced” to head to rehab. And although some have linked her problems to Justin, a source close to Gomez told Radar that she “began spiraling” following the horrific murder of her friend Christina Grimmie.

That tragedy occurred in June in Orlando, and the insider revealed that Selena started her downward spiral at the time to “numb herself” from the emotional pain.

“Selena wasn’t the same after that. She was definitely depressed — it was obvious.”

A “desperate intervention”involving family members focused on what Radar terms the singer’s “escalating drug use.” The drugs included a mixture of “Lunesta, Ambien, Klonopin and Xanax,” according to the insider.

“Not all at once. And more ‘recreational’ than any one thing specifically,” added the source about the alleged drug abuse.

Gomez previously stayed at a treatment facility in Arizona in 2014, with an insider alleging that the stay was due to her “abuse of Xanax, Ambien, marijuana, among other substances.”

In contrast to that report linking Selena’s issues to drugs, however, Life & Style cites sources who say that the “Kill ‘Em With Kindness” singer blames Justin for her “breakdown.”

Revealing that Gomez has summed up 2016 as “one of the worst years of her life,” the insiders revealed that she feels “backed into a corner” by Bieber after canceling her “Revival World Tour.”

Even though she and Justin were in an “off” phase of their on-again, off-again romantic relationship, the multiple photos of Bieber canoodling with his now-ex girlfriend Sofia Richie hurt Selena, according to one of the sources.

“It was really hard for her,” explained the insider.

“She saw Justin looking so happy and that really sent her into a downward spiral.”

Moreover, Hollywood Life’s insider reports that Bieber has not reached out to Gomez since her bombshell tour cancellation. Rather than indicate that Justin doesn’t still care about his ex, the lack of communication reportedly has to do with his focus on his work. At the time, he also was involved with Sofia (the two just split).

“[Justin] hasn’t reached out to her because he is doing his own thing and his own tour,” explained the insider.

Consequently, Bieber is immersing himself in his tour, and, at the time, he was “really loving his relationship with Sofia.” With that romance over, the door is open for Justin to rekindle his romance with Gomez. But do the two still care about each other?

Sources told E! News that Bieber and Gomez continue to have a special bond, with bad timing rather than lack of caring blamed for their problems in rekindling their romance.

The book of Jelena (Justin + Selena) has many chapters, repeatedly soaring to the peaks of love to the rock bottom of breakups. Every time that it seemed over, something such as an Instagram photo or, as recently occurred, a social media exchange between Bieber and Gomez opened another chapter.

“They have a rocky relationship,” summed up one source.

“They were very in love at one point and went through a lot…some feelings just don’t go away.”

As to the potential for yet another chapter in their love story, Bieber has “made attempts in the past to show Selena he cares for her but the timing hasn’t been right,” clarified the source.
