Brad Pitt Dead? Rumor Claims Actor Committed Suicide After Angelina Jolie Divorce Announcement

Is Brad Pitt dead?

In the wake of the Brad Pitt-Angelina Jolie divorce announcement, one website is claiming that Brad Pitt has committed suicide.

According to Snopes, the rumor is entirely false. Brad Pitt is just the most recent famed celebrity to have fallen victim to an internet death hoax.

Snopes is reporting that the rumor of Brad Pitt’s death began to make the internet rounds after a malicious website posted a photo to Facebook, claiming that Brad Pitt committed suicide. The website, which has posted a plethora of celebrity death hoaxes in the past, attempts to steal personal information from Facebook users who give the “disreputable app” access to their profile.

Those who clicked through the Brad Pitt photo and allowed the app access were greeted by an article which appeared to have come from Fox News. According to Snopes, the article claimed that Brad Pitt committed suicide as a direct result of the Angelina Jolie divorce proceedings.

“Brad Pitt, 52, a multiawarded American actor and husband of Angelina Jolie, 41, shot himself in the head at a shooting range on Sunday. He was under significant stress because the couple ‘were going through a divorce and he had a history of depression’, sources have said.”

On Tuesday, Angelina Jolie announced that she had filed for divorce from her husband of two years. The couple married in 2014 after more than a decade together, and together Brad and Angelina have six children.

In her divorce filing, Angelina cited “irreconcilable differences” as her reason for divorce, and MSNBC is reporting that Brad Pitt allegedly has anger issues, which are reportedly “exacerbated by what has been alleged was his habit of smoking marijuana and drinking.”

Though a statement given by her attorney, Angelina said she made the decision to file for divorce “for the health of the family.”

Jolie has requested sole physical custody of her children. She’s requested that Pitt be given visitation rights and continue to have joint legal custody. According to the MSNBC report, it is highly unlikely that Pitt will accept the custody arrangement laid out by Jolie’s team without a fight.

Brad also released a statement expressing his sorrow at the end of his marriage and the dissolution of his family.

“I am very saddened by this, but what matters most now is the wellbeing of our kids. I kindly ask the press to give them the space they deserve during this challenging time.”

Despite the upheaval in his life, it seems unlikely at this time that Brad Pitt is dead. As noted by Snopes, the announcement of Brad and Angelina’s death has sparked a whole slew of rumors, including a rumor that Brad is the author of A Secret of Love, which is a romantic story about a man who cares for his sick wife. That rumor, Snopes is reporting, is also false.

Earlier this year, the same website that reported Brad Pitt is dead also reported that Angelina Jolie had committed suicide. Additionally, the website has reported the deaths of Miley Cyrus and John Cena, as well. All of those death hoax reports were also false.

What do you think of the news that Brad Pitt’s death report is false? Have you seen the Brad Pitt death hoax floating around Facebook? If so, did you think that Brad Pitt is dead until you came to check it out?
