WWE News: Chris Jericho Explains What Happened With Brock Lesnar At ‘SummerSlam’

In August, the WWE held their SummerSlam WWE Network special and the main event of the show saw Brock Lesnar battle Randy Orton. The story was that they both entered the WWE at the same time and both went on to great success, yet never battled each other. The story at the end was that Lesnar legitimately busted open Orton’s head, beat him bloody, and left him with a real concussion.

As the Inquisitr previously reported, Chris Jericho was waiting for Brock Lesnar when he came back after the match and approached Lesnar about what happened. The two got into an argument and Vince McMahon had to break them up when he told Jericho that the beating was scripted.

The entire situation was called “boys being boys” and neither star was punished for the confrontation behind the curtains. Chris Jericho was on Chael Sonnen’s podcast this week and Sonnen asked Jericho about the incident with Brock Lesnar backstage at SummerSlam.

According to Chris Jericho, he was just concerned about Randy Orton because of how violent the match was. Jericho did say that he said something to Brock, and then Lesnar got into his face and Jericho didn’t back down. Chris said that he is not the type of person to back down — to his detriment.

“When I see a friend of mine lying in a pool of his own blood, whether it’s a work or not, that’s real blood. That’s a real concussion that he suffered. So I wanna go check and see if he’s okay.”

Chris Jericho admitted that it wasn’t his business but that Randy Orton is his friend. Jericho also said that he made a comment to Brock Lesnar when he came backstage and Brock “misinterpreted it” and called Jericho a “pu**y.” That is when they got in each other’s faces.

There was also a funny moment in the interview with Chael Sonnen, where Sonnen asked Jericho if he was a “mark” for thinking that Brock Lesnar legitimately went off script. Chris was taken aback by this and said he is not a mark for being concerned about his friend and that, with 27 years in the business, he can think whatever he wants.

Of course, Jericho also wasn’t very far off base here. Brock Lesnar did legitimately bust open Randy Orton in the SummerSlam match. That was real blood that was pouring out of Orton’s head and Randy received 10 staples after the match to close up the cut. Orton was also concussed and was out of action until this week with the concussion issues from that match.

It makes sense that Chris Jericho would be worried about Randy Orton after the beating that he took at the hands of Brock Lesnar. It also would be safe to assume that no one would know about that finish, since it was completely brutal and out of fashion in a WWE that loves its PG rating so much.

With that said, the WWE is in the middle of a lawsuit with a number of different former wrestlers, including Demolition and Road Warrior Animal, about the unsafe work conditions, including unreported concussions. To see that the WWE booked a wrestler to take a legitimate beating that led to a concussion seems ludicrous. Chris Jericho was worried about Randy Orton after the Brock Lesnar match for good reason.
