Joss Whedon: Donald Trump A ‘Racist, Abusive Coward’ [Video]

Joss Whedon has written a script for an organization dedicated to convincing Americans to go out and vote in the upcoming November elections, and it isn’t very favorable to Republican candidate Donald Trump. You can watch the Whedon video below.

Joss Whedon, an American screenwriter, composer, and director, is known as the creator of numerous television series such as Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Angel and the short-lived but beloved Firefly. He has also made an impact on the world of film, having co-written and produced such films as Toy Story, Serenity, Cabin in the Woods, and, most, recently the Avengers series of movies based on the Marvel comic book franchise of the same name. Whedon announced his current project on Twitter.

Whedon wrote the current script for Save The Day, an organization that is reportedly dedicated to motivating potential American voters to register and participate in the democratic process.

“We are a short-form digital production company dedicated to the idea that voting is a necessary and heroic act,” Save the Day states in their mission statement. “That every voice in this wonderfully diverse nation should, and must, be heard. That the only thing that can save democracy is the act that defines it. We are committed to fighting the apathy, cynicism, and honest confusion that keeps citizens from using their vote. And to reminding an increasingly out-of-touch and compromised set of representatives that they are answerable to the people they were hired to serve.”

Despite this non-partisan statement, the Joss Whedon-supported organization is a Super PAC (political action committee) that supports the candidacy of Hillary Clinton, the Democratic Party nominee for president. The video itself, at least, certainly does not favor Clinton’s rival for the highest office in the United States, GOP nominee Donald Trump.

Whedon refers to Trump in the video as a “racist, abusive coward who would permanently damage the fabric of our society.” He goes on to ask the question, “Do we really wanna give nuclear weapons to a man whose signature move is firing things?” referencing Donald Trump’s catch phrase during his tenure as the host of reality show The Apprentice.

The new video is modeled after the trend of modern political advertisements that feature numerous people reading a script in a long-form narrative. This video, however, features an impressive cast of celebrities, many of which have been connected to Joss Whedon in the past. Among the celebrities are Nathan Fillion, former star of the Joss Whedon television show Firefly and sequel film Serenity, Bradley Whitford and the acclaimed Martin Sheen of political drama The West Wing, Whedon regular and How I Met Your Mother star Neil Patrick Harris, Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Don Cheadle, and Mark Ruffalo, who Whedon claims will appear in a film naked if enough people go to the polls in November.

The video, in typical Joss Whedon fashion, employs offbeat humor in order to engage the audience on a serious subject. Whedon stresses the importance of the upcoming American presidential election and openly admits that it sometimes takes “a s**t ton of famous people” to stress that importance to an electorate that often seems apathetic to major election cycles. Whedon spoke to the Hollywood Reporter about his motivation behind backing the Save The Day project.

“It’s about getting people to vote, because it’s frightening the apathy that people are treating the most crucial election of their lifetimes with,” Whedon said.

Indeed, Joss Whedon seems to have made this his top priority, as CNET reports that Whedon has shelved his upcoming movie scripts in order to produce the Save the Day video series, which the organization claims will include some 15 to 20 individual ads. Whedon has also reportedly donated close to $1 million to the Clinton campaign. A long-time supporter of the Democratic Party, it seems Joss Whedon is using his platform as a popular writer and director to advocate increased participation in the American political process.
