Kelly Dodd On Shannon Beador’s Family Drama: ‘I Empathize With Donna’

Kelly Dodd made an effort to make peace with Shannon Beador during Monday’s episode of The Real Housewives of Orange County. Shannon wasn’t exactly eager to hear what Dodd had to say, but Kelly really wanted to apologize for calling her names. When she apologized, Shannon accepted the olive branch, and they could move on. Sadly, Dodd got caught up in more of Beador’s drama during the rock concert, when Shannon’s mother-in-law decided to tell Kelly that Beador is keeping her children from her, and she pushed David to have an affair.

According to a new Bravo report, Kelly Dodd is now revealing that she didn’t want to get caught in the situation and she really had no interest in being in the middle of the drama. And yet, Shannon’s mother clearly went after Dodd when talking about these issues. In fact, she didn’t hold back at all. When Beador heard the news, she ran out of the restaurant, and she was clearly heartbroken over what had happened and what had been said.

“Now, contrary to what you may think, I didn’t want to get involved in Shannon’s family soap opera. Without picking sides, I can tell you what I saw and heard. To me, Donna’s emotions seemed genuine. She was telling me that Shannon does not allow her to see her grandchildren, which made me really sad because I know how important my Jolie is to my Mom and vice-versa. Donna seemed to be emotionally hurt. She was upset and the tears were flowing. I empathize with Donna,” Kelly Dodd writes in her blog for Bravo‘s The Real Housewives of Orange County, which may be shocking to some fans.

But as she explains, Kelly was very close with both of her grandparents, and she knows how important that family bond is. Dodd is currently very close with her mother and her daughter gets to see her grandmother quite often. Kelly realizes that this is a close relationship and a bond that she wants to see for Shannon Beador’s kids, and she even reflects on her own relationships with her grandparents.

“I was very close to both of my grandmothers. Every parent knows that time with our children is precious. I am sure it’s a difficult situation for everyone involved, especially the girls,” Kelly Dodd points out in her Bravo blog.

The sad part about the mother-in-law drama was that the three girls saw it happen and they knew that drama existed between their mother and grandmother Donna. While they didn’t know what had been said to Beador, they talked about the importance of forgiveness and hinted that their mother should forgive her mother-in-law. It was truly a powerful moment, because it shows how well these girls have been raised but also shows viewers what they learned about forgiveness when it came to their father’s betrayal with the affair. And Kelly Dodd reveals that she was heartbroken when she saw the conversation on the way home from the concert.

“When I saw Shannon and David explaining to their children in the car ride home what had happened, I felt terrible for the girls. The car ride should have been celebratory and fun, not depressing. The girls rocked the house,” Kelly Dodd explains in her Bravo blog.

“I thought how wise their daughter was for saying, ‘Some people get angry but you have to forgive them.’ That tells me the Beador kids might understand how dysfunctional the situation is between Shannon and her in-laws.”

What do you think of Kelly Dodd’s comments about her co-star’s mother-in-law? Do you think she wanted to get out of the conversation or did it look like Dodd really enjoyed getting the juicy information from Beador’s mother-in-law?
