Selena Gomez And Taylor Swift Stay Close After Tom Hiddleston Split

Selena Gomez and Taylor Swift have been involved in a years-long friendship, and through their difficult times, they have remained close.

In recent weeks, both Gomez and Swift have gone through major life moments, and according to a new report, the singers have gotten even closer due to Gomez’s recent revelation regarding her anxiety and depression. In fact, one particular outlet wondered if Taylor Swift’s split from boyfriend Tom Hiddleston was due in part to her desire to stay close to Gomez as she battled the side effects of lupus.

“The web has been buzzing about the real reasons behind the breakup of Taylor Swift and Tom Hiddleston. Was it because the ‘Bad Blood’ singer wanted to be beside her best friend, Selena Gomez, after learning she has been ill?” asked a report shared by Hall of Fame Magazine on September 12.

Gomez went public with her struggles with anxiety and depression at the end of last month after the completion of her tour dates in Australia and New Zealand. Although the singer’s Revival Tour was supposed to continue around the world in the coming months, the remaining tour dates have all been canceled.

About a week later, Taylor Swift and Tom Hiddleston’s breakup was confirmed. As fans will recall, Taylor Swift and Tom Hiddleston began dating in June of this year and quickly went public with their relationship, despite Swift having broken up with Calvin Harris just two weeks prior.

Although Taylor Swift has not yet spoken out about her split from Hiddleston, she has stepped out with friends, including Lily Aldridge, as her friend, Gomez, remains in hiding.

Since Gomez spoke to People Magazine about her struggles and revealed her plan to take some time off, the “Same Old Love” singer has been keeping to herself, and her whereabouts are unknown. However, weeks ago, a source told Hollywood Life that Taylor Swift was planning to treat her friend to a fun weekend once she’s feeling up to it.

“As soon as Selena’s feeling better, [Taylor Swift] has promised a girls’ weekend,” an insider told the outlet earlier this month. “She can hang out with their girls quad and they can pamper themselves at a health spa.”

As Taylor Swift’s relationship with Tom Hiddleston reportedly came under strain in early August, Gomez and her ex-boyfriend, Justin Bieber, came to blows on Instagram, and later, Gomez spoke of her mental health issues.

“As many of you know, around a year ago I revealed that I have lupus, an illness that can affect people in different ways,” Gomez told People Magazine in a statement on August 31. “I’ve discovered that anxiety, panic attacks and depression can be side effects of lupus, which can present their own challenges.”

“I want to be proactive and focus on maintaining my health and happiness and have decided that the best way forward is to take some time off. Thank you to all my fans for your support. You know how special you are to me, but I need to face this head on to ensure I am doing everything possible to be my best. I know I am not alone by sharing this, I hope others will be encouraged to address their own issues.”

Taylor Swift has not yet commented on Gomez’s career hiatus. However, she has been clear about her dislike of Bieber in the past.
