Detroit Lions QB battle virtual tie

The Detroit Lionshave a big decision on their hands. Should they start veteran QB Daunte Culpepper, or should they start overall number one draft pick Matthew Stafford? While this question is likely to play out of the first couple of regular season games, the play of both of these men has not helped the Lions coaching staff make this important decision.

Yesterday, in the third pre-season games both QB’s were pretty impressive. Culpepper threw for a touchdown and 67 yards. He was 7 of 12 throwing the ball in a very efficient start. Stafford who played the second and third quarters was 13-19 for 160 yards and one interception.

the big plus for Culpepper is this is an offense he knows very well. This is the same offense he ran in Minnesota with then Offensive Coordinator Scott Linehan. Linehan is now directing the Lions offense and seems very comfortable with Culpepper under center.

On the other hand Stafford is suppose to be the new franchise QB, and is guaranteed to make 42 million dollars over the next few years. Many believe that Stafford should play and get use to the speed of the NFL game. Lions fans however are a little more gun shy, having already seen one potential franchise QB career be destroyed by a bad team and bad coaching.
