WWE Rumors: Shinsuke Nakamura Still Wants Brock Lesnar In A Match

The latest WWE rumors suggest that NXT Champion Shinsuke Nakamura is still hungry for a match with one of the biggest names in the company. He’s been on a serious tear since joining World Wrestling Entertainment. Nakamura has defeated several stars, including Austin Aries, Finn Balor, and, most recently, Samoa Joe for the title. Many fans are expecting he’ll be a call-up to either the Raw or SmackDown Live roster in the near future. Could he also be in line to face “The Beast” Brock Lesnar in the ring?

According to Channel Guide, Nakamura said of the opportunity to face Lesnar, “If I get a chance, I would be up for that.”

He added, “My body would need to be ready because he is tough. Ouch.”

Most likely, Nakamura got a good look at the damage Brock did to Randy Orton in their WWE SummerSlam 2016 main event. When that fight finished, Orton was a bloody mess and required a good number of stitches on his head.

It would be the first time the two competitors have fought inside a WWE ring, but it’s not the first time they’ve fought in a wrestling match. Back in 2006, Lesnar was the IWGP Heavyweight Champion while working with New Japan Pro Wrestling. One of the guys he successfully defended that title belt against was, in fact, Nakamura.

In that match, Nakamura actually seemed in control towards the end. He hit Lesnar’s own trademark German suplex at one point and put on a submission hold later. However, “The Beast” was way too much for the man now known as the “King of Strong Style.” Lesnar managed to pick up Nakamura while still in the submission hold and then slammed him to the mat. Brock finished him off with the F5 for the win.

A timetable for when these two superstars might actually meet up in the WWE is hard to estimate. Right now, Nakamura seems to be the top draw on NXT as their champion. He’s enjoying immense popularity with the fans. However, he could easily transition to the main roster once he drops the title. As for Lesnar, he’s been much more of a part-timer on the Raw brand.

Brock is expected to be in a rematch against Randy Orton in less than two weeks from now. At this time, he hasn’t been scheduled for the exclusive Raw pay-per-view, Clash of Champions. However, that could change. It has seemed that he mostly works on the co-branded events, as he is a big draw for those particular pay-per-views.

In addition to all that, there are the lingering rumors of a Brock Lesnar and Goldberg rematch in the future. Goldberg has recently been a part of promoting the WWE 2K17 video game in advertisements and at certain events. Lesnar, who appears on the cover of the game, has been engaging in some promo taunts to help build up hype for the game as well.

That said, Nakamura seems hungry for a rematch that is a decade in the making. It’s not the first time he’s made mention of wanting Lesnar in the ring again either. Nakamura has been thinking about this for months, at least.

Seeing these two compete again would certainly be a treat for many pro wrestling fans. Brock Lesnar has been built up as one of the most dominant forces in WWE in recent times. His only notable losses have come due to some sort of foul play in the matches, but for the most part, he’s been on a win streak. Nakamura has also looked unbeatable as a part of the NXT roster and now as the champion.

Nakamura became a star thanks to 14 years spent within NJPW, where he captured just about every title imaginable. It’s likely he now has his sights set on getting to the main roster and winning a few of the titles there as well. For now, he will remain the top guy on the NXT roster until someone can knock him off that perch. When that happens, he’ll be elevated even higher and possibly in a position for that Brock Lesnar match.
