Amy Schumer Sees The Funny Side Of Being Hospitalized
Comedian Amy Schumer seems to believe that everything has its funny side. Schumer’s humor seems to stretch to situations that many of us would find less than amusing, even when the laugh is on her. Schumer is currently on vacation in Paris, France, with her boyfriend, Ben Hanisch. It seems that both Amy and Ben have been struck down by food poisoning and as a result, they enjoyed an unexpected trip to the Emergency Room. In typical fashion, Schumer was quick to make light of the situation by making a series of posts to her Instagram feed to let her fans know that she is sick.
Of course, getting sick is never a joke, especially when like Amy Schumer you are due to kick off a major U.S. tour later the same week. One can only imagine the anxiety that Amy felt entering a healthcare system she is not familiar with and where language may prove a significant barrier. Thankfully, Schumer posted a message reassuring fans that the shows would be going ahead as planned.
Amy broke the news of her illness with a picture of her ladling soup from a bowl which, E! News says she captioned “trying to eat chicken broth post puke fest.” Unfortunately, it seems that things did not improve for Schumer as she later posted a picture of her in bed with Ben and captioned it “thanks for everything Paris! Except the food poisoning.”
CNN report that those posts were followed up by a series of pictures of Amy in a hospital gown lying on a gurney. It seems that Schumer may have had to wait a while to be treated so in typical fashion Amy made light of the situation. Entertainment Weekly report that Schumer posted a picture collage of herself bearing a wide grin from a hospital gurney on which she wrote “no red flags with this girl.” Let’s face it hospital gowns are hardly flattering so Amy was likely having a little laugh at her situation.
Schumer even found time to make a video for her fans in which 35-year-old Amy made a mockup of a dating site introduction video.
“Hi. OK, this is my first time making one of these videos, but, you know, it’s a new time. My name is Amy. I’m 35. I love just grabbing life by its horns and experiencing everything. I love music and food. I really just want someone to share all of that with. So, I’m taking a chance.”
Presumably, Schumer’s video was filmed by Hanisch — ironically the couple met through a dating site as Schumer revealed in her memoir, The Girl With the Lower Back Tattoo. Schumer says she was smitten by Ben from the first time they met, saying that “we smiled at each other and in that moment, everything felt right.”
Amy was also relieved that she was able to hook up with someone who was not in the entertainment industry, he is a Chicago-based furniture maker, and Schumer considers him her first real boyfriend. Before her trip to Paris Amy and Ben had been in London for a red carpet event at the Tate Modern where she was named as British GQ’s Woman Of The Year.
Schumer seems apt to make light of just about any situation, but she has shown time and again that she will not put up with sexism. Radio Times report that Schumer destroyed a sexist heckler during a recent show in Stockholm, Sweden. During Schumer’s show, the heckler shouted out “show us your t**s” and Amy ripped him a new one. After getting the crowd to point out the ignorant man, Schumer put him firmly in his place.
“What do you do for a living? Sales? How’s that working out? Cos we’re not buying it.
“If you yell out again, you’re going to be yelling ‘Show us your t**s’ to people in the parking lot, because you’re going to get thrown out, Motherf***er.”
It seems that some people just won’t learn and after shouting out again Amy saw him ejected from the show.
