‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Season 13: From A Love Triangle To Jail Time For Alex — Everything We Know So Far [Preview]

ABC has released its first official trailer for Season 13 of Grey’s Anatomy and it looks like fans are in for another dramatic season.

From Meredith and Maggie’s love triangle with Riggs to Alex’s epic fight with DeLuca, here is everything we know ahead of the season premiere.

According to Entertainment Weekly, one of the biggest source of drama next season centers on Meredith’s (Ellen Pompeo) romance with Riggs (Martin Henderson).

At the end of Season 12, Meredith hooked up with Riggs, then later discovered that Maggie (Kelly McCreary) is falling for him too.

This offered Meredith a good reason to cut ties with Riggs, which she encouraged Maggie to do as well.

“She’s finding herself in this triangle that Maggie for sure is going to see as a betrayal,” Pompeo revealed. “Call me crazy, but I smell a little drama.”

Maggie is definitely going to have problems with Meredith sleeping with Riggs. However, showrunner Shonda Rhimes assured fans that the drama won’t last long.

“What I love is that we’re not ever a show that’s about a guy coming between two women, because I really feel like that’s never interesting,” Rhimes shared.

Meanwhile, Alex (Justin Chambers) might be facing some serious penalties for his fight with DeLuca last season.

As fans will recall, Alex thought something romantic was happening between Jo (Camilla Luddington) and DeLuca and decided a beat down was in order.

Will Alex go to jail over beating up a fellow doctor? More importantly, how will his relationship with Jo suffer?

“That relationship is going to be deeply affected,” Rhimes stated. “The fact that Alex is a guy whose response is to beat somebody up is a little problematic.

According to Buddy TV, Alex will also face the reality of some jail time in Season 13 of Grey’s Anatomy.

In the Season 13 trailer, Meredith is shown telling Alex, “You think nobody’s going to realize this is you? You could go to jail!”

Moviefone is reporting that Alex’s beating was so severe that it landed DeLuca in the ER. With DeLuca struggling for his life, it’s only a matter of time before the police find out who beat him up.

For now, it doesn’t look like Meredith is going to turn Alex in anytime soon.

Will Meredith’s decision put her in trouble with the cops as well?

“We’re the bad guys,” Meredith tells Alex after helping patch up his bloody knuckles.

According to TV Guide, Alex’s actions will have lasting repercussions on everyone at Grey Sloan Memorial.

“The doctors in the hospital [have] to reckon with the notion that one of their own could have been so violent,” McCreary explained. “It causes some friction among the doctors. There’s definitely sides being taken.”

At the same time, Jo has quite the revelation for Alex this season. Alex thought he knew everything about Jo’s past, but he never knew that she was married to an abusive man and still hasn’t filed for divorce.

“They bonded over their past, and to leave that part of her past out, he’s going to feel very betrayed,” Chambers stated.

Of course, with Alex facing some serious jail time, his problems with Jo are the least of his concerns.

Whatever ends up happening with Alex, Caterina Scorsone promised fans that the Season 13 premiere will include some “explosive” drama.

“Immediately on the tail of Amelia and Owen’s wedding, there’s a big explosive drama that’s happening right away,” the actress explained. “On Grey’s Anatomy it could be a literal explosion, but in this case, it’s emotionally explosive. It’s going to be a key story this year that a lot of people are going to be interested in.”

Season 13 of Grey’s Anatomy is scheduled to premiere on Sept. 22 on ABC, check out a preview below.
