PlayStation Network Outage: Users Facing Issues Across The Board

Is the PlayStation Network down for you? Well, that seems to be the case for almost everyone around the globe as several core services of the PlayStation Network went down twice in a span of less than 24 hours. While the initial outage resulted in most of the services including Gaming and Social, Account Management, and PlayStation Now being rendered unusable, they were back up soon. However, at the time of writing this article, a second outage has left once again, left Gaming and Social as well as Account Management features inaccessible. As of writing this article, the only two services that seem to be working include PlayStation Video and PlayStation Music.

On the PlayStation Network Status page too, Sony has confirmed the issue. A statement on the two sections of the website read;

Account management: You may have some difficulty signing in or creating an account on PlayStation Network. Our engineers are working to resolve the issue as soon as possible, and we thank you for your patience.

Gaming and Social: You may have some difficulty launching games, applications, or online features. Our engineers are working to resolve the issue as soon as possible, and we thank you for your patience.

It is pertinent to note that the issue with PlayStation Network has happened less than 24 hours to go before the company is to reveal the new PS4 NEO and PS4 Slim at a special PlayStation event on September 7. Another major product launch on the same day is that of the Apple iPhone 7. While it is unclear whether the arrival of these new products have anything to do with the outage, another possibility is the fact that the outage also coincides with the launch of the fourth and final Black Ops 3 DLC. Note that we are merely speculating about these possible causes as of now. There has been no confirmation from Sony about these possible reasons.

While the earlier outage affected PS4, PS3, and PS Vita platforms, some Vue customers said the service was back up for them.

As expected during any large-scale outage, people took to social media to vent their outrage at the series of outages that have been affected the PlayStation Network of late. A comment on the official Facebook page of PlayStation, which by the way did not report the outage, read the following.

“I love how you don’t tell people when server will be down.you gained thousands of people from Xbox don’t start making everyone leave for fact that you cannot be assed to write the shortest paragraph possible and explain why.”

Another user named Eduardo Javier wrote this.

“Now that you are charging us to play online, I expect some refund, I don’t care how little it is because I can’t play online and I paid for this service. And yes, I am referring to the issue you are experiencing. You’d have thought that with these charges this kind of stuff wouldn’t happen.”

Another visibly irate user wrote the following.

“How about a refund for the ps plus members cause you guys can’t fend off a couple of 13 yo hackers from some third world country and all they have is a desktop from 1989 with AOL connection.”

Twitter too, was filled with users talking about the outage where the official PlayStation Network twitter handle also acknowledged the issue. We have embedded some tweets below.

Let us know if and when PlayStation services are back up for you.
