Mitt Romney Will Turn Campaign Around At Debate, Says Chris Christie

Mitt Romney’s poll numbers have been falling steadily since he alienated nearly half the country with his now infamous 47% remark last week but the GOP candidate has a prime opportunity to turn things around at his first debate with President Obama.

New Jersey Governor Chris Christie said that the Romney will turn the 2012 Presidential race “upside down” during the debate on Wednesday night.

Christie said:

“Listen, he’s had a tough couple of weeks, let’s be honest … I mean, I’m not going to sit here and come on this morning and sugarcoat the last couple weeks. They’ve been tough. But here’s the great news for Republicans: We have a candidate who is going to do extraordinarily well on Wednesday night, the first time he has the opportunity to stand on the same stage as the President of the United States.”

Things went from bad to worse for Romney last week when a hidden camera captured him saying that 47% of the country were dependent on the government. The comments angered Democrats and Republicans alike but Christie is confident that the American people will be able to look past Romney’s “inelegant” comments.

Christie said:

“I don’t think the majority of American people are focusing on (that comment). And here’s what I think — the American people, and the voters, are much smarter than we give them credit for. They know that political candidates at times, when they’re being taped every minute of the day are going to say things inartfully.”

Do you think Mitt Romney will start gaining some ground after the debate on Wednesday?

Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney made a misstep when he described 47 percent of Americans as feeling entitled to government aid, his vice presidential running mate, Paul Ryan, said.

    WILLARD ROMNEY:

" Well, there are 47% of the people who will vote for the president no matter what. All right? There are 47% who are with him. Who are dependent upon government, who believe that– that they are victims, who believe that government has a responsibility to care for them, who believe that they're entitled to healthcare, to food, to housing, to you name it. But that's– it's an entitlement. And the government should give it to them. And they will vote for this president no matter what. "

" And– and so MY JOB IS NOT TO WORRY ABOUT THOSE PEOPLE! I'll never convince them that they should take personal responsibility and care for for their lives. What I have to do is convince the 5% to 10% in the center that are independents, that are thoughtful, that look at voting one way or the other depending upon in some cases emotion. Whether they like the guy or not. "
