Inmate Admits To Brutally Killing 20-Year-Old Prostitute, Leads Police To Shallow Grave Where He Buried Headless Body

After a 57-year-old taxi driver, Christopher Halliwell, led investigators to the nude, headless body of a prostitute, Becky Godden, 20, in a field in Eastleach, Gloucestershire in March 2011, he tried to convince authorities that he wasn’t responsible for her brutal murder, reported the Mirror.

However, Halliwell – who is serving a life sentence for killing Sian O’Callaghan – later confessed to the murder, telling officials that “I am a sick f*****. Is it too late to get help?”

“I know you are not a psychiatrist, but what the f***’s wrong? Normal people don’t go round killing each other.”

It was reported that between 2003 and 2005, Halliwell picked up Godden off of a street in Swindon and had sexual intercourse with the prostitute.

Instead of returning the woman back to her location, Halliwell admitted to strangling her to death.

It was not immediately made clear what led up to the brutal murder, but Halliwell told officials that after the killing, he stripped the woman of her clothes and buried her remains in a shallow grave.

Years later while behind prison bars, he admitted to killing the prostitute and agreed to lead officials to her remains.

After police had arrived at the scene, Goddon’s body was located, but it was evident that she had been decapitated – something Halliwell failed to mention.

Other body parts were also missing.

Halliwell also failed to mention that he was reportedly infatuated with Godden, following her around as she walked the streets.

Although Halliwell admitted to police that he murdered the prostitute then buried her remains, he denied it in court.

While in court, prosecutor – Nicholas Haggan – stated that “had the defendant – who is representing himself – not told the police where he had buried that girl from the streets of Swindon, you might think that Rebecca’s remains to this day would be in that field in the middle of nowhere.”

The prosecutor added that the prostitute was reported missing after she was last seen and heard from on January 3, 2003, according to the Daily Mail.

“After that nothing more was heard from her. She made no contact with her family; she made no contact with any of the government and other agencies and financial institutions.”

Three years after Godden’s disappearance, Halliwell confessed to kidnapping and killing O’Callaghan, and he received a minimum term of 25 years in prison.

Haggan said “she too was murdered. Her semi-naked body was found a few days after she disappeared.”

“It was concealed by undergrowth in a remote location, not a great distance from the field where Rebecca’s body had been buried.

“What relevance is that, you might think? The short answer is that this young woman was murdered by this defendant.”

“How do we know that? We know that because he pleaded guilty to Sian’s murder and is currently serving a term of life imprisonment for that offense,” the attorney added.

However, during the trial, Judge Sir John Griffith Williams told jurors that they should not find the defendant guilty solely based on his confession to killing O’Callaghan.

He said: “The prosecution case against Halliwell, which will be developed this afternoon, is that there are similarities between the circumstances of the killing of O’Callaghan and the killing of Godden.”

“The prosecution case is that these similarities are such that they prove the defendant was the killer of Rebecca or Becky Godden.

“That is one of the issues in the case and you will have to decide, on the evidence as you hear it, whether there are such similarities and whether that inference can be drawn from those similarities.”

“What you must not do is assume or conclude from the fact that he has pleaded guilty to the murder of O’Callaghan. That would be wholly wrong,” the judge added.

Halliwell’s trial is ongoing and is expected to last five weeks.
