WWE Rumors And Spoilers: AJ Styles To Beat Dean Ambrose On ‘SmackDown’?

The WWE rumors surrounding rising superstar AJ Styles are a lot more positive than those of his other, more controversial counterparts. Since Styles began fighting in the ring, many of the reports surrounding him have focused on his fights (and wins) rather than his controversies. And now, the latest WWE spoilers suggest that tonight’s episode of SmackDown will show The Phenomenal One easily besting Dean Ambrose!

That’s according to Daily DDT, whose WWE rumors about Styles provide five good reasons why he should emerge the victor over Ambrose during tonight’s match. Ambrose is already set to fight against Styles on September 11 during the Backlash Pay-Per-View event, and Daily DDT is suggesting that tonight’s fight will give us a preview of the Styles win that’s to come. This isn’t the first time that the site has released WWE spoilers about the fan favorite, but this is definitely the first time that they’ve stated outright that Styles is due to win over his more formidable opponent.

Not, mind you, that their assessments are without merit. Citing the two performers’ fights at SummerSlam — Ambrose’s win against Dolph Ziggler was lackluster, at best, while Styles’ besting of the legendary John Cena rocked the organization — they’re not ashamed to say that Styles will not only give a much-needed shot in the arm to the Backlash event, but will also be more worth of the WWE World Championship title.

Other WWE rumors surrounding AJ Styles concern who, precisely, he will fight at WrestleMania 33. CBS Dallas-Fort Worth is reporting that the biggest spoilers surrounding the most anticipated wrestling event of the spring will have more Hollywood crossovers than just the much-anticipated Vin Diesel and The Rock showdown fight to promote the Fast 8 movie. Styles sat down with the local CBS affiliate to talk about his family and his upcoming fights, and he mentioned that he would like to fight Mark Wahlberg — the actor formerly known as rap star Marky Mark, leader of The Funky Bunch — and added that while it was a crazy idea, the WWE would probably go for it.

If this rumor proves to be true, it would be the third celebrity-centered match at WrestleMania 33. In addition to the rumored Vin Diesel and The Rock match, basketball legend Shaquille O’Neal is set to fight Big Show.

The last round of WWE rumors about AJ Styles come to us courtesy of Bleacher Report, who provide an in-depth look about how Styles’ rising star is indicative of how fans’ perception of a WWE superstar is changing. Citing additional examples like Kevin Owens, the respected sports site is noting that a lot of current WWE superstars — including Styles — got their start on the indie circuit, a trend that has never been seen before in the history of the WWE. Under Vince McMahon’s tutelage, the WWE superstars of the past had well-developed story lines that were developed strictly within the WWE, which also served as the proper incubator for talent in years past.

With the rise of The Phenomenal One, however, that’s all changing. Credit, of course, for this new trend goes to Roman Reigns, who was beginning to set the changing tone of the WWE when he was making his mark with The Shield back in 2012. He, like the rest of The Shield, rose during a time when a mass exodus of wrestlers like The Undertaker and Shawn Michaels had left a void in the wrestling world waiting to be filled.

“They had the opportunity to make the impact they did because of the lack of other bona fide main event talent. Too many other attempts at homegrown talent failed, creating a necessity for the creation of new stars from other areas.”
