‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Season 13: Is This Going To Be The ‘Finale Season’? Is Meredith’s Death Part Of The Plot? [Video]

Grey’s Anatomy Season 13 is scheduled to premiere on September 22, and fans of the second longest-running medical drama on TV (second only to ER, which ran 15 seasons) are waiting with bated breath for their favorite show to wrap up last season’s cliffhangers. Like every season of Grey’s Anatomy that has come before, there were a lot of them.

This time around, though, the rumor mill is grinding like never before, and there’s a lot of speculation that Grey’s Anatomy Season 13 is going to be the most dramatic and unbelievable season in the history of the show.

There are also a lot of rumors that Season 13 is going to be the last, which is the reason for the amping-up of the drama. After all, Grey’s Anatomy can’t go out with anything other than a bang.

In addition to being TV’s longest-running medical drama, Grey’s Anatomy is also one of the longest-running shows on TV period. It spawned a highly successful spin-off, Private Practice, which ran for an incredible six seasons, and as Grey’s Anatomy has begun to bleed members of the original cast, fans and critics alike are wondering if creator Shonda Rhimes is ready to end it.

One of the most pervasive rumors going around about Grey’s Anatomy Season 13 is that fans are going to see Dr. Christina Yang (Sandra Oh) return to the cast. The rumor started just after the Season 12 finale, which saw the unexpected and emotionally devastating departure of Dr. Callie Torres (Sara Ramirez). By all accounts, Sandra Oh, who left the Grey’s Anatomy cast at the end of Season 10, left the show on excellent terms with her cast mates, the show’s writers, and everyone else, so it’s not improbable that fans could soon be seeing the return of Dr. Yang.

She always said that she’d be more than happy to return to the Grey’s Anatomy universe. For the series’ finale. The fact that so many rumors are going around that promise the return of Christina Yang is making fans wonder if Grey’s Anatomy Season 13 might be the last one. We’ve always known that 13 was an unlucky number.

If Sandra Oh does come back to Grey-Sloan Memorial Hospital, it could create some serious Grey’s drama. Her ex-husband Dr. Owen Hunt (Kevin McKidd) just got married to Dr. Amelia Shepherd (Caterina Scorsone); the return of Christina Yang could create a love-triangle of epic proportions.

As Game N Guide reports, Grey’s Anatomy Season 13 has promised a return to the show’s original cast and “core characters.” With that in mind, rumors that Dr. Izzie Stevens (Katherine Heigl) could be coming back for Season 13 have some credibility. Katherine Heigl hasn’t been part of the Grey’s Anatomy cast since Season 6, and she left on bitter terms, so the idea that she might make a Season 13 appearance is a bit more difficult to swallow. However, if Season 13 is also the finale season, Shonda might find a way to work her wayward chick back into the fold.

Like Dr. Yang, Dr. Stevens’ former love interest (and ex-husband) has found new love and moved on. Dr. Alex Karev (Justin Chambers) has repeatedly proposed marriage to Dr. Jo Wilson (Camilla Luddington), who has repeatedly and inexplicably turned him down. At the end of Season 12, it was revealed that Dr. Wilson had refused to marry Dr. Karev because she’s already married to an abusive man she’s changed her identity to flee. Dr. Jo Wilson, it was revealed, isn’t even her real name.

One of the biggest shocks in Grey’s Anatomy Season 13 could come by way of Dr. Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo), the show’s star and title character. Dr. Grey has been through some serious drama over the course of Grey’s Anatomy’s 12 seasons, not the least of which being the death of the love of her life, Dr. Derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey) in Season 11. Since then, Meredith Grey has been working desperately to rebuild her life as a surgeon and mother to three young children; the end of Season 12 saw her get back into the dating (and sexing) game.

Now, rumor has it that Grey’s Anatomy Season 13 might involve the unthinkable. It is being rumored that, in preparation for the long-running series’ final episode, Meredith Grey might be killed off. After all, nobody’s safe on Grey’s.

The rumors of the impending death of Meredith Grey during Season 13, rumored to be the finale season of Grey’s Anatomy have become widespread that they are now spawning details. Reportedly, Ellen Pompeo won’t even make an appearance in Season 13 Episode 1.

Like Grey’s Anatomy seasons past, this summer has been full of speculations and rumors about the upcoming season of the show. Fans are going crazy wondering what’s going to happen next to their favorite characters in their favorite TV show, and also like season’s past, the show’s creator’s aren’t talking.

Shonda Rhimes hasn’t confirmed or denied any of the rumors swirling around Grey’s Anatomy Season 13, so fans will just have to wait (and tune in) to see what happens next.
