Prince Allegedly Lived On Cocaine Diet, Went Days Without Sleep, According To Half-Brother Duane

Prince allegedly lived on a cocaine diet and went days without sleep, according to Prince’s half-brother Duane Nelson. People Magazine revealed in a new exclusive interview that Prince could go several days without food, water, or sleep, as witnessed by Prince’s ex-girlfriend Charlene Friend. Nelson explains that Prince’s stamina had everything to do with narcotics.

The interview goes on to say that Prince managed to keep his cocaine diet a secret for many years. Friend said that Prince hid it very carefully. According to Friend, she never saw Prince take even an aspirin, saying that he was health-conscious and took vitamins. But Prince’s now-deceased half-brother, Duane, says the Purple One actually lived on cocaine.

Apparently, mutual friends to both Charlene and Prince confirm Nelson’s statement, saying that Prince used drugs to manage the “tremendous high” he would get from performing in front of crowds. Coming down from those highs made Prince feel empty, Friend told People Magazine. Friend also said she believes Prince turned to drugs to deal with that empty feeling.

Even though Friend says she never saw Prince use cocaine, bottles of counterfeit prescription drugs were recently found in Prince’s famous Paisley Park estate and studio complex, which is located in Chanhassen, Minnesota. Experts say that Prince probably knew those drugs contained the potent narcotic fentanyl. The pills were found hidden in an Aleve bottle, and a source close to the investigation says that this is just more proof of how Prince hid his use of narcotics.

In fact, a narcotics overdose is what eventually killed Prince Rogers Nelson, 57, back in April — a “self-administered” fentanyl overdose, to be exact. Friend says that since Prince’s death, she’s now able to see that Prince did, in fact, keep his drug use a secret when he would only say he lived off of “angel food.” According to Prince, “food of the spirit, not of the flesh” allowed him to work non-stop in his studio and stay up for days without food or water.

Friend says she tried to keep up with Prince but almost passed out from exhaustion. Friend also recalls that when Prince finally did allow himself to sleep, he would crank up the heat, cover the windows, and shake all through the night.

“I asked him if he was having a nightmare, and he said, ‘No. I was dreaming music.'”

Prince and Friend finally went their separate ways after several years together, but Friend later asked Prince’s half-brother, Duane Nelson, how Prince was able to live the life he lived and stay awake for days at a time. Nelson, who reportedly worked head security at Paisley Park and knew first-hand what was going on, told Friend that Prince was able to sustain himself both physically and mentally with a “cocaine diet.”

In the past, celebrities have been accused of using the cocaine diet to lose weight, but cocaine also stimulates the body, keeps people awake for days, and suppresses the appetite, according to an article on Medical News Today. Fentanyl, in contrast, is a sedative, causing drowsiness and lethargy. Was Prince actually using cocaine to counteract the effects of fentanyl?

There’s no actual proof that Prince used cocaine and fentanyl together, but Friend seems to think Prince’s behavior is proof enough, saying that one day he would be in a good mood and the next he would be in a deep, dark mood.

“Part of that was just his personality, but I now realize that the drugs enhanced that.”

Fans of Prince, on the other hand, think that Friend is lying about Prince’s drug use, saying she was probably paid for interviews and that Prince would have been dead long ago on a diet of “endless pills,” without sleep, food, or water for days.

According to Prince’s lawyer, L. Londell McMillan, Prince lived a “clean lifestyle.” McMillan, who knew Prince for 25 years, said that Prince was never on any drugs that would be a cause for concern, contrary to sources close to Prince who say that the musician did have a history of using prescription opioid pain relievers.

One close friend to Prince, Sky Dangcil, recently opened up in an interview with Us Weekly about Prince’s addiction to painkillers, saying that Prince “started taking opioids after suffering a hip strain which left him in chronic pain” and continued to take opioids to “keep the show going.”
