Asimo Robot Navigates Moving Obstacles. Prepares Terminator Type Dominance

asimo-walk

Asimo continues to extend its capabilities. It was impressive enough when this lifelike robot was able to walk at decent speeds and handle basic movement, now researchers at Carnegie Mellon have developed a new protocol which allows Asimo to navigate through obstacles.

These aren’t your normal mouse to cheese type obstacles, they include complex moving obstacles which must be navigated by Asimo while avoiding any blocks that appear throughout the moving course.

The video shown below comes from Carnegie Mellon researches who programmed Asimo to go after a goal while avoiding moving and stationary objects. I don’t want to throw out the terminator comparisons, but how can I avoid it. As Gizmodo points out, for the time being we’re all safe as long as we wear large blue blocks on our clothing. Either way it’s a very cool bit of progress for robot technology
