Alicia Keys Discusses Shelved Beyonce Collaboration

In 2010, songstress Alicia Keys and pop sensation Beyonce Knowles teamed up for a musical collaboration that many thought would set the world ablaze, musically speaking. Once the song “Put It in a Love Song” was in the can, the duo even got together to shoot a music video for the tune. However, as 2013 rapidly approaches, the song has yet to make it to the airwaves. According to Digital Spy, the song may never see the light of day.

“Sometimes with creative things [it] all comes together and it’s [perfect], and sometimes things almost come together and it’s better to just leave it,” Alicia Keys explained during a recent interview with Essence magazine. “We had a ball shooting the video. It just so happens that the whole thing, for some reason or another, didn’t quite come together, so we just decided to leave it.”

In the aforementioned interview with Essence, Alicia Keys also touched on her new album, Girl on Fire, which is presented slated to hit retail shelves this November.

“I’ve always started my music mostly on the piano,” she said of her musical evolution. “There is a certain style of music that I just gravitate towards – that’s probably going to be a piano and a voice, and something kind of stripped back and simple. That’s going to happen naturally. Then there are other styles that come through or are new for me, or inspire me because they sound different. But nine times out of ten, they start at the piano.”

Although their collaboration didn’t exactly pan out as planned, Alicia Keys and Beyonce are apparently still pretty tight. The singer will reportedly headline Keys’ Black Ball charity event at New York’s Hammerstein Ballroom on November 1. The event, which will honor Oprah Winfrey’s humanitarian work, will also feature appearances from Carole King, Angelique Kidjo, and Alabama Shakes.
