First Cinematic Trailer For ‘Dead Island: Riptide’ Arrives Online

The wait is finally over. The first cinematic trailer for Dead Island: Riptide has finally found its way online. As a fan of the first Dead Island game, the idea of adventuring to another tropical island to face off against a seemingly endless legion of zombies sounds like an enormous amount of fun. Judging from the trailer embedded below, it would appear that developers are attempting to inject more of a story into this particular outing.

Sadly, there doesn’t appear to be any gameplay footage in the aforementioned clip; just some footage designed to set up the story. However, since Deep Silver is claiming Riptide isn’t a true sequel to Dead Island — the company considers it to be more of a spin-off than a proper follow-up — prospective gamers shouldn’t anticipate too much of a departure from the original adventure. Outside of a few minor tweaks here and there, chances are you should anticipate more of the same. I mean that in the most positive way possible, of course.

According to Kotaku, Riptide picks up where Dead Island left off. As our heroes sail away from the zombie-saturated resort towards civilization, a monsoon appears out of nowhere. Before long, this ragtag band of survivors find themselves on yet another island teeming with the undead. The quest to stay alive begins again.

Since Dead Island was not without its fair share of problems, Deep Silver has promised to make a few additions and alterations to the experience. Mercury News is reporting that Riptide will contain a totally revamped weather system, which will include heavy downpours and extremely limited visibility.

Dead Island: Riptide is currently scheduled to arrive on consoles sometime next year. The first cinematic trailer has been embedded below. Were you a fan of the original Dead Island? Are you looking forward to the next installment of the franchise?
