Justin Bieber news on Instagram recently led many fans to questioning whether the pop star was friends with convicted sex offender and Ferris Bueller’s Day Off star Jeffrey Jones.

While a recent headline from Radar Online stated, “Bad Boys! Justin Bieber Pals With Convicted Sex Offender Jeffrey Jones,” the story was deemed untrue by Gossip Cop. Though, what is true is that the pop star did have a run in with Jeffrey Jones. When Bieber ran into the actor who played the Dean of Discipline Edward R. Rooney in the classic 80s movie, the two posed for an innocent photo op. The singer posted the photo to Instagram and captioned it, “Ferris buellers day off.” While the photo was all in good fun, the snapshot backfired and created some drama.

Justin Bieber news suddenly became filled with craziness once Radar Online wrote, “Justin Bieber has friends in low places — including the sex offender database!” The web tabloid then contradicted itself, stating they had “exclusive details” about the encounter, but also wrote that “It’s unclear why Bieber and Jones were spending time together.”

Jeffrey Jones has been out of the public eye for quite sometime. The movie star had pleaded no contest to possession of child pornography and trying to convince a 14-year-old teen to participate in lewd acts. Though Jones is now a convicted sex offender, he’s had other run-ins with the law. In 2010, the Ferris Bueller star was arrested for failing to update “his status information” when moving to Florida, reported Gossip Cop. As a result, Jones was sentenced to 250 hours of community service and also served three years of probation.

Justin Bieber news became more misconstrued as the story went on. Radar Online took it upon themselves to call the singer and the actor both “pals” and “friends.” Still, this claim is untrue, according to Gossip Cop. Justin Bieber simply ran into the iconic 80s actor without knowing each other, explained the website.

This news about Justin Bieber being friends with Jeffrey Jones has no validity, according to Gossip Cop. The online tabloid-busting publication pointed out that Justin Bieber was only 9 years old when Jones’ original case took place. The publication jokingly wrote that Bieber “doesn’t carry around a police database.” Gossip Cop also mentioned that the pop star was most likely “unaware” of Jeffrey Jones’ status.

The online tabloid wasn’t the only one who pointed out Jeffrey Jones’ sex offender status to Bieber. Fans of the pop star commented about Jeffrey Jones’ past with child pornography, reported the Mirror.

While Justin Bieber news has been somewhat quiet recently, the pop star had other Instagram drama earlier this year. Bieber complained on the social media site that he felt “like a zoo animal” when being approached by fans in public for autographs. This was sparked when a fan approached the pop star for a hug. Justin Bieber refused to comply.

The news of Justin Bieber’s decision to not take photos with fans caused outrage on his Instagram, according to Mirror. One fan wrote, “I’m sure it’s annoying not being able to live a ‘normal’ life, but ‘normal’ isn’t what you signed up for. Get over it and stop being a douche.”

Justin Bieber responded to the criticism from his fans with a lengthy post, explaining his reasoning behind setting these boundaries.

“If you think setting boundaries is being a douche I’m the biggest douche around but I think it’s smart and will be the only way I last. I wanna enjoy life and not be a slave to the world and their demands of what they think I need to do!!”
