Did Demi Lovato Just Admit Selena Gomez Treated Her ‘Badly’ During Their Friendship?

Demi Lovato appears to be putting her former friend Selena Gomez on serious blast.

Just days after Demi sensationally unfollowed Selena on social media, Lovato now appears to be throwing some serious shade Gomez’s way in a new interview with ELLE Canada.

Though Demi didn’t mention Gomez by name in the new interview, Hollywood Life is speculating that Demi slammed Gomez by admitting that she hates being compared to the “Good For You” singer, while fans are alleging that she also called out Selena for being a bad friend in the pages of the magazine.

“I’m me,” Demi told ELLE Canada in the interview, revealing that she hates being compared to her follow Disney stars, which the magazine speculated included Selena and fellow former Disney darling Miley Cyrus.

“I’m not anybody but myself, and I wish people would stop comparing me to others,” Lovato said, telling the publication that she’s “the type of person who feels everything.”

Demi then appeared to allude to her fractured relationship with Gomez, confessing in the interview that she’s been “treated badly” by others in friendships before.

“There are times when I give too much to other people,” Demi revealed. “I’ve had friendships in my life where I do so much for the other person and it goes completely unrecognized or I get treated badly. That’s something you don’t forget.”

Though Demi did not explicitly tell the magazine that Gomez is the former friend who once treated her badly, that didn’t stop fans from speculating that Lovato was taking serious aim at Gomez in the new interview.

“I thought that the… Demi Selena friendship [ending] was Demi fault, but now I know that is Selena fault,” @demilovaqto tweeted, while Twitter user @innmchlprz speculated that Lovato was allegedly “jealous” of Selena’s close friendship with Taylor Swift.

“Demi got jealous of Taylor and Selena’s friendship,” the social media user claimed of why Lovato and Gomez’s friendship broke down.

Demi Lovato is yet to officially confirm or deny speculation that she was referring to her former friendship with Selena Gomez in the interview, though it has long been rumored that Gomez’s closeness to Swift may have affected the twosome’s once close friendship.

Back in 2010, Lovato sparked rumors of a rift during a fan meeting in London, England, when a fans asked the star “How’s Selena?”

Demi then hit back, “Ask Taylor!” which got fans speculating that she was referring to Gomez’s relationship with the “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” singer.

The latest Demi and Selena drama comes after Lovato was quizzed on why she opted to click the unfollow button on her former friend during a 2015 appearance on Bravo’s Watch What Happens Live.

“You recently unfollowed your BFF Selena Gomez on Twitter, [there’s] so much speculation about this. Can you tell us why?” host Andy Cohen asked Demi about her alleged feud with Selena.

Lovato initially refused to answer, instead telling Andy that she was pleading the fifth, though Demi eventually admitted that her fractured relationship with Selena is “just one of those things where people changed and people grow apart.”

An insider also spoke out to Hollywood Life about Lovato and Gomez’s broken friendship at the time, claiming that Lovato opted to cut ties with Selena because being friends with the actress and singer was just too much drama.

“Demi doesn’t need any extra drama, she’s learned from her own recovery to lose the people that bring her down and Selena is too much of a headache,” an insider alleged. “The unfollowing of Selena is sending a message that Demi is pissed. She is sick of Selena’s boy-who-cried-wolf mentality.”

Lovato also previously spoke out about the downfall of her friendship with Gomez in a 2015 interview with Complex, where she confirmed that the two had grown apart and are no longer close.

“You know, when you’re young and you get older, you change and people change,” Lovato said at the time. “You have things in common, and then all of a sudden, you don’t.”
