First Look At New RoboCop Suit [Photo]
Let’s be honest. We’re a little bit curious about the upcoming reboot of Paul Verhoeven’s cheesy 80s cult classic RoboCop. Dredd‘s early success with critics and at the box office proves that offbeat film remakes are not only possible; they can exceed the originals.
But part of a remake’s success depends on the look. So how does the new RoboCop look?
Luckily, RoboCop’s new look isn’t just a mild re-hash of the clunky constipation suit made famous in the original by actor Peter Weller. The new suit represents the rational aesthetic jump from, say, Adam West’s Batman costume from the 60s TV show to Michael Keaton’s black batsuit in Tim Burton’s 1989 Batman. Furthermore, the jump from that batsuit to Christian Bale’s practical plated armor in The Dark Knight.
I say all that to say, you couldn’t have possibly predicted what the new RoboCop suit would look like, and I believe you will be pleasantly surprised.
The new RoboCop takes place in the year 2028, and flexes familiar plot points from the original. Multinational conglomerate OmniCorp is the leader in robot technology. Robotic drones are used in military conflicts with much success, and the technology is in its early stages for domestic law enforcement application. Alex Murphy is an honest cop, loving husband and father, struggling to fight corruption in Detroit. After being mortally wounded in the field, OmniCorp robotically augments his body in order to save his life.
RoboCop, directed by Jose Padilha, stars Joel Kinnaman as Alex Murphy/RoboCop, and co-stars Gary Oldman, Michael Keaton, and Samuel L. Jackson. The film will see release on August 9, 2013.

Cheesy and campy are not the same, you must be 19-21. The original RoboCop was a social satire of the 80's and it was perfect as that, this is just wanting to make some money off the more current influences of Iron Man and Transformers.

RoboCop was one of those awesomely bad classics of the 80's and that's what I love about it! Did these guys even see RoboCop? This is blasphemy! That's not RoboCop! that's a half rate actor in a rubber suit! It's a bootleg batman without the ears and the cape! Is this going to be in theaters because it looks like a canceled NBC superhero show that makes me want to vomit….SMDH if it ain't broke don't destroy it!

Looks like some actor in a pair of dark tights…and looks like they saved the right arm. We already saw this in 'I Robot' with Will Smith…but with his LEFT arm.
This is what happens when you detour from the original. Batman already proved it…yet Hollywood can't fight the feeling to fuck with what works.

I'll be fair and give them a chance to try and impress me, but so far…they've missed the mark by quite a distance. The problem is, and this is not nostalgia talking, he doesn't look like RoboCop. RoboCop actually looked like a robot. He was clunky, he was slow paced, he was mechanical and methodical in his movements. He was shiny, he looked like he rolled off of an assembly line. He looked like a human trapped inside a machine body, keeping him barely alive. This looks like a supercop in a battle suit, akin to the suit used in the Crysis game series. It's a great design for video games and movies like Batman, but it just doesn't work for RoboCop. However, we've yet to see what the special effects will do, the CGI and the like. I'm willing to give it a chance. But it better be amazing, or this thing's going to tank. One of the reasons the Knight Rider reboot didn't make it was K.I.T.T. People disliked him being a Ford Mustang so much, it ruined the show for them. I think the same thing could happen here.

What the hell is that? A combination of batman suit? Or a combination of Jodge Dred suit??? With supposibly Robocop? Nothing like the original, it looks more like vinyl suit for street racer bikers.

You know I've just recently finished Crysis 2 and this was exactly what I thought he looked like. Just a man in high tech armour. I've seen some concept art where he looks even more like a man in generic battle armour. I want to be proven wrong, but an awful lot of the things they're saying behind the scenes aren't helping to win me over. They want him to be more human ie. less of a machine, they do remember it's called "ROBOcop and not "Cop who happens to be a cyborg". Which also ignores the fact that a central theme of the original was Murphy FINDING his humanity. Oh and apparently the execs want it to be 12A (PG-13). Yeah…not inspiring confidence when your trying to make Robocop family friendly.
