Vaporeon, Jolteon, And Flareon: Eevee Evolutions’ Weaknesses In ‘Pokémon GO,’ Plus More Secrets About Game Revealed

Vaporeon and the other Eevee evolutions seem to have been causing quite a stir lately. While it’s true that no Pokémon is an island (except maybe Mew), folks just can’t seem to figure out the weaknesses of Vaporeon, Jolteon, or Flareon. In the original Pokémon games, Vaporeon and its companions were the first three evolutions of Eevee, but since then, more have been added. Some of these include the Psychic-type Espeon and everyone’s favorite, the dark attack user Umbreon.

With so many Eevee forms available, a lot of people also wonder how to make Eevee evolve into Vaporeon, Jolteon, or Flareon. Well, look no further; we’ll have the answer to these questions and so many more revolving around Pokémon GO.

Oregon Live revealed that one can dictate how their Eevee evolves by giving it one of three nicknames–“Sparky,” “Rainer,” and “Pyro.” Apparently, these Pokémon were a Jolteon, Vaporeon, and Flareon, respectively, in the original TV series, so the names make some semblance of sense. We’ve come a long way from using Water Stones to evolve Vaporeon (sorry, 90’s kids).

Game Rant also discussed the process of evolving Vaporeon and the others more in-depth. Once you’ve renamed Eevee to your evolution of choice, the site recommends restarting to make sure the name change sticks. From there, you simply evolve your Eevee, and voilà! Enjoy your new Vaporeon.

And now, the question of all questions: What in the name of Victory Road is Vaporeon’s weakness in Pokémon GO? If that question has been burning in your mind, iDigitalTimes has you covered.

The online publication released a guide to battle in Pokémon GO, in which it noted that ye olde type weaknesses from the original Pokémon games are still in effect. This means, for instance, that a Flying Pokémon will tend to do better against a Grass or Ground type, while Electric types can usually route a Water type Pokémon.

The opposite also tends to be true; a Grass type is weak to Fire and Flying, and a Psychic type to another Psychic. Thus, the logical conclusion would be that Vaporeon, like most water types, will be weak to electric and grass types. Vaporeon’s strengths would probably be against fire types.

Perhaps the coolest part of Pokémon could also be one of the least well-known. That would be a handy little trick called Effort Values (EV’s). Using this method, Pokemon act kind of like real animals in that the more they’re exposed to a certain type or attack, the more they “evolve” to resist said type.

The only downside is Pokémon tend to like you less for making them go through EV training. So, if you’re okay with being hated by your new Vaporeon, you can expose them again and again to say, electric attacks, and then that mean trainer with the Pikachu can’t hurt you anymore.

If you’re not impressed yet, fear not! There are more Pokémon GO secrets on the way. If you really wanna catch ’em all, Prima Games suggests that you’d better start packing. This because Pokémon GO is set up so all the little creatures don’t appear in any one single area (honestly, that would be no fun). Just like in the original game, you’ll have to explore pretty much everywhere to find a variety of different Pokémon (only the real world is a tad bigger than the Pokémon one). So, if you want that Vaporeon, you’ll have to work for it!

If you can’t or don’t want to go on a trip to look for Vaporeon and the others, surely there are still plenty of Pokémon to be found nearby. Just take the “stampede” of virtual Vaporeon that caused people to get out of their cars in Central Park, NY, for example. Pokémon GO is apparently causing havoc other places too, as people fall into lakes and run into walls trying to “catch” these things while looking like they’re hallucinating. We think the warning page before the game that begs players to “Please Be Aware Of Your Surroundings” pretty much says it all.
