Daniel Radcliffe: One More Rich Brit Who Doesn’t Understand Brexit

Daniel Radcliffe is one of those rich, bodyguard protected Brits who think Brexit is a bad idea, according to the New York Post. This is the opinion of Andrea Peyser, author of the article “Ignore Daniel Radcliffe when it comes to Brexit.”

Peyser calls Daniel Radcliffe a “feeble-brained” British actor who can’t adequately assess the benefits of Brexit. Her article was written after the main actor of the Harry Potter film series said Brexit “is scary as sh*t.”

On June 23, the majority of Brits voted in favor of Brexit, triggering the process of leaving the European Union. And Daniel Radcliffe, who rose to international fame thanks to his role as the boy wizard, is among those who protested the decision of 52 percent of Brits who support leaving the EU.

But Peyser thinks “rich and famous folks” (read: British celebrities) cannot truly understand the benefits of Brexit since they don’t have any contact with immigrants “other than those who fetch their food or clean up their messes.” Daniel Radcliffe was criticized by Peyser for his interview with Vulture, in which he compared Brexit to “the Trump thing.”

“Similar to the Trump thing, I feel like we started off being like, ‘It’ll never happen. Don’t worry about it.’ And now it’s like, ‘Oh, no, we could not be a part of Europe.'”

Thus, Daniel Radcliffe joins a large group of British famous actors, singers, authors, and leaders of the country’s creative industries, who signed an open letter urging Britons to vote for Remain in the European Union.

The list of Remain supporters, apart from Daniel Radcliffe, included such stars as Star Trek actor Sir Patrick Stewart, Sherlock actor Benedict Cumberbatch, as well as 12 Years a Slave actor Chiwetel Ejiofor.

And Daniel Radcliffe and his fellow Remain celebrity supporters couldn’t help but make it all about themselves, telling Britons that Brexit will result in limitations to the country’s “global creative success.”

Some British celebrities even shared their outrage over the results of the EU referendum on Twitter. That list included the author of the Harry Potter books, J.K. Rowling, who wrote she didn’t think she has ever wanted magic more. Well, in the real world, Daniel Radcliffe’s boy wizard doesn’t have the kind of magic that would reverse the outcome of the vote.

In other news, Daniel Radcliffe has just said he would reprise his iconic role of Harry Potter under one condition, according to the Huffington Post. The 26-year-old actor revealed that he wouldn’t mind playing the boy wizard again, but said it would depend on the script.

In his interview with Radio Times, Daniel Radcliffe compared himself to Harrison Ford and his role of Han Solo.

“The circumstances would have to be pretty extraordinary. But then I am sure Harrison Ford said that with Han Solo, and look what happened there! So I am saying no for now, but leaving room to backtrack in the future.”

It also seemed as if Daniel Radcliffe wasn’t thrilled about someone else taking on his role in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, the stage show that tells a continuation of the story.

In fact, during his recent appearance on Late Night with Stephen Colbert, Daniel Radcliffe admitted he would most likely avoid watching the stage show.

Even though he was confident that Harry Potter and the Cursed Child would be fantastic, Daniel Radcliffe wasn’t excited about watching it among “very enthusiastic” Harry Potter fans, who wouldn’t let him watch it in “a relaxing way.”

“But I just feel sitting in an audience of what will, for most of the near future, be very enthusiastic Harry Potter fans might be, like, not a relaxing way to see a show.”
