Britney Spears Drops Hot New Single ‘Make Me’ — Twitter’s Best Reactions

After months of new music speculation, Britney Spears finally dropped her new single “Make Me” at midnight on July 15, and the big reveal sent social media into a meltdown.

Britney fans flocked to social media to share their reactions to the track, posting a slew of praise in support of Spears and her latest single in the form of gushing messages and GIFs.

“I’m so emotional! Britney’s song is LIFE! She just changed the whole d**n game, and my life! I’m in tears! #MakeMe” @BArmyNewYork tweeted out, while Spears fans @femme_R wrote, “Oops you did it again. Congrats #MakeMe #1 in ITunes USA as of right now! SLAY!! nicely done Ms Legendary @britneyspears.”

“Can’t get enough of #MakeMe @britneyspears she f****** slayed me,” @goddessxvodka added, and Twitter user @Spectra_G tweeted out of Spears’ new song, “OKAY THIS NEW BRITNEY SONG OFFICIALLY KILLED ME, CONGRATS IM SLAYED!!! #MakeMe.”

“This made my night. When your idol releases a surprise song that sounds incredible @britneyspears #MakeMe,” Britney fan @KingggAnthony wrote on the social media site, while @videosofbritney said of “Make Me,” “I could never expect for such an incredible song. Britney always surprised me!! #MakeMe.”

Other Spears fans opted to express their excitement for “Make Me” by posting a slew of GIFs on the social media site after Britney officially dropped her first single since 2015’s “Pretty Girls.”

But it wasn’t just fans who were quick to praise Britney on her latest release. Both FuseTV and Pop Crush also had positive takes on “Make Me,” publishing glowing reviews of Spears and the song just hours after it was released.

“Going in this moody, sensual direction is not only refreshing to listeners but likely also to the veteran pop princess,” FuseTV reported on July 15. “When the results are this stunning, how could anyone complain?”

Pop Crush also gushed over Britney Spears, claiming that “Make Me” was the “rebirth” of the popstar.

“Laps of bass, sexy licks of guitar and Major Lazer-like squawks fill out the airy spaces between Brit’s melodically purred come-ons,” the site wrote of the new song. “But the true beauty of “Make Me” lies in its climax of a chorus, as she erupts into coos of euphoria. “OOO-ooo-OOO-ooo-OOO!” Waves of pleasure. Waves!”

Following the swarm of praise, “Make Me” shot to the top spot on the iTunes chart in the U.S., which Spears acknowledged on the social media site.

“This is an incredible feeling,” Spears told fans alongside a screen shot of the single riding high on the digital download service. “Thank you, thank you, thank you!! #MakeMe.”

Britney’s collaborator, rapper G-Eazy, previously spoke out about his involvement with the song earlier this year, describing Spears’ new song as being “big.”

“It’s a big record,” the rapper admitted of “Make Me” in a past interview about his Britney collaboration with KISS FM. “It sounds big. It will go off in the clubs. It will sound great on radio.”

“I think the walls of genre have been broken down and everything is just a melting pot,” G-Eazy continued of Spears’ first single from her upcoming ninth studio album. “You know, a lot of different influences. I guess it leans hip hop, but it’s just a big song.”

Spears also spoke out about “Make Me” and her as-yet-untitled new album in an interview on the set of the “Make Me” music video with E! News last month, where she confirmed that her new music has a “different sound” from her previous releases.

“It’s very exciting. I’ve been working on this project for a year and a half now, almost two years so it really means a lot to me. It’s my baby,” Britney said at the time.

Spears then went on to describe her new music as being “a little melodic, a little more not so poppy” and also “kind of chill. Very chill.”

The site reported that Britney’s ninth studio album is set to drop “in the fall.”
