Nintendo NX Controller Is Now Available To Purchase On eBay: Infamous Fake Controller Selling For $10,000 Ahead Of NX’s Release

Whilst Nintendo is yet to officially unveil their next console, codenamed NX, that hasn’t prevented various leaked product shots surfacing. Whilst many of these leaks have been quickly found to have little or no foundation, there’s one particular leak that caught the attention of just about everybody earlier this year. The product render claimed to show the NX’s controller from a development unit of the console, and as far as leaks go, it was incredibly convincing.

The leaked render was quite predictably proven to be a fake. However, according to Digital Spy, though the leak was believed to be dead and buried, it’s now appeared as part of an eBay listing, meaning eager Nintendo fans can get their hands on a product that claims to resemble the upcoming console. The photograph attached to the eBay listing appears to show a product exactly matching the one released earlier this year, however, it’s a little more rough around the edges than the previously released renders.

It’s safe to assume that this unit isn’t an official Nintendo product and likely won’t resemble Nintendo’s offering when they officially reveal it later this year. However, that isn’t stopping the seller from listing it for an extortionate price. The fake NX controller is available to buy right now at $10,000; otherwise, bidding starts at $4,000.

According to Gizmodo, the seller flogging the fake NX controller still appears to be claiming absolute authenticity with the product. A closer look at the images attached to the eBay listing shows a not so convincing sticker on the back of the controller claiming the product to confidential to Nintendo. In fact, the product appears to be dotted with a number of stickers claiming the fake NX controller is confidential property and strictly not for resale ahead of Nintendo’s official release of the NX.

Whilst the product featured in the listing has an incredibly similar appearance to the one that surfaced a few months back, there’s no guarantee that it is. Furthermore, the description attached to the product provides equal cause for suspicion, saying “Your bidding on an official Replica Nintendo NX development Controller. The unit is very rare as only 5 of these replicas were made in existence.” Grammatical mistakes aside, it remains to be seen why the product is being marketed as an NX replica.

It’s more than safe to assume that this isn’t the authentic Nintendo NX the eBay listing claims it to be. However, Nintendo’s official NX release is expected to be nearing the end of its development cycle and heading into production ahead of Nintendo’s official unveil later this year.

The Japanese gaming giant still has the Nintendo NX penned for a release in March 2017. However, there’s now widespread speculation that the manufacturer could look to bring forward that release window in a bid to capitalize on the success of the recently released Pokémon Go. The release of the mobile title is believed to have added over $10 billion to the value of Nintendo as a company whilst drastically increasing awareness of their brand, both factors which could comfortably benefit the launch of the NX.

That being said, official details around the console are still incredibly thin on the ground. Aside from stating that the next title in The Legend of Zelda franchise will be available on the platform, Nintendo has been incredibly tight-lipped around what form the new console will take.
