Deena Cortese Banned From New Jersey Bar

The Jersey Shore may be ending but the cast is still wreaking havoc along Seaside Heights. Deena Cortese has been banned from the Spicy Cantina & Mexican Grill for two years over a public intoxication incident that occurred this Summer.

Cortese was spotted stumbling through the streets outside of the cantina in June. The restaurant was fined $15,000 for serving the “visibly intoxicated” reality star. Now, as part of an agreement between New Jersey liquor regulators and the restaurant, Deena has been banned from the premises for the next two years.

Michael Halfacre, the director of New Jersey’s liquor regulation division, said:

“This settlement is a cautionary tale for licensees who might think ignoring the law for the sake of air time is good for business… By turning a blind eye to the mayhem that can be associated with reality television, you are risking your livelihood. That is, without a doubt, bad for business.”

Yes, this is a serious situation, and yes, a bar shouldn’t serve alcohol to visibly intoxicated reality stars. But there is a good deal of humor here as well.

According to the settlement between the state and the cantina, the bartenders admitted to serving Cortese “several shots of water” and “non-alcoholic drink mix” that she drank “without realizing that she was not drinking alcohol.”
