‘Fear The Walking Dead’: Is Nick Just Rick From ‘The Walking Dead’?

Ever since AMC released The Walking Dead‘s companion series, Fear The Walking Dead, comparisons have been made. Fans have speculated on the story and the characters and whether there will ever be a crossover between the two shows. But what if Nick Clark is really just another version of Rick Grimes?

SPOILER ALERT: This article discusses AMC’s Fear The Walking Dead as well as its companion program, The Walking Dead. Please proceed with caution if you wish to avoid spoilers.

Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) is the main character in AMC’s The Walking Dead. His character slept through the beginning of the zombie apocalypse and, as a result, AMC decided to give fans what they wanted: a look into how the apocalypse unfolded while Rick was in a coma. Rick started out as the hero of the apocalypse. He did what he thought was right and had reasons to back up those decisions. He then descended into Crazy Rick, an identity that has disappeared and reemerged over the course of The Walking Dead. Now, the Rick fans know in the Season 6 of The Walking Dead is a man who will kill others rather than have them kill his people first. He has become the anti-hero if you like.

Nick Clark (Frank Dillane), on the other hand, started out as the bad guy. He was the junkie who would steal as required and did whatever he needed to get his next hit. However, over the course of a season and a half of Fear The Walking Dead, Nick has turned into the sort of character fans can get behind. He has struggled through withdrawals as well as fought with his internal demons over what is right now in the zombie apocalypse. Could he be the complete opposite of Rick; the bad guy who turns good?

But the comparisons don’t stop there. Right from the pilot episode of Fear The Walking Dead, fans and media outlets alike were comparing the two characters whose names are even very similar. After all, is Nick just a shortened version of “New Rick”? Now, as AMC releases new image stills for Season 2B of Fear, there seems to be yet another comparison to be made between Nick Clark and Rick Grimes.

The following new image shows Nick Clark walking along a deserted highway.

Now, if you just added a horse, the image could be considered very similar to the key artwork for Season 1 of The Walking Dead.

So, let’s have a look at some of the other similarities.

Both shows start with a character in an accident. Nick gets hit by a car in Fear The Walking Dead and Rick gets shot in The Walking Dead.

Then the pair spends some time in the hospital.

When Nick and Rick are not stuck in an outfit rut, both like to wear bloody outfits to blend in with the undead.

Considering Fear The Walking Dead is only a season and a half old, that’s quite a few comparisons to make between the two characters already. Can you think of any more similarities between Nick Clark from Fear The Walking Dead and Rick Grimes from The Walking Dead? Let us know by commenting below!
