After Christina Aguilera Flop, Jennifer Lopez And Lin-Manuel Miranda Produce A Fundraising Hit For Orlando

As Inquisitr mentioned a couple weeks back, Christina Aguilera released a fundraising single called “Change” to benefit the victims of the tragedy in Orlando. The song rose to the the top 10 on iTunes when released, but immediately plummeted down. According to Entertainment Weekly, Aguilera performed the song on Jimmy Kimmel Live.

“Christina Aguilera hit up Jimmy Kimmel Live this week to perform ‘Change,’ her new song benefiting the victims of the Orlando shooting. Aguilera was accompanied on stage by a three-piece band and four back-up singers. As Kimmel said, all proceeds from the song’s downloads will be donated to the National Compassion Fund in support of those individuals and families affected.”

The commenters after the article appreciated Aguilera’s efforts.

“Such a beautiful song for such a special occasion,” said @GreenSushi

“Great song and great delivery,” claimed @BlueController.

However, an official clip of the performance has only been viewed 447,000 times. To make things worse, the song never charted on Billboard‘s Hot 100. In contrast, Jennifer Lopez and Lin-Manuel Miranda have released a new song called “Love Make the World Go Round” to help benefit the Orlando victims and it’s a success. E! Online reported on the new single Friday morning.

“Jennifer Lopez and Lin-Manuel Miranda were given the gift of song, and now they’re giving back to those affected by last month’s Pulse nightclub massacre in Orlando. The singer, 46, and the playwright, 36, teamed up for ‘Love Make the World Go Round.’ Miranda wrote the song, which was recorded June 27 at Avatar Studios in New York City and released exclusively on iTunes Friday.”

E! Online adds that Lopez, Miranda, and Epic Records will donate 100 percent of their proceeds from each download to an organization called Proyecto Somos Orlando, which will provide bilingual culturally-competent social services to impacted families and the broader community. Some of the services include case management, crisis intervention, grief counseling, mental health services, and educational programs.

It appears that Lopez and Miranda’s efforts have been far more productive than Christina Aguilera’s, as their song, as of Friday afternoon, has raced to No. 2 on the U.S. iTunes chart and could hit No. 1 before the end of the day. Twitter has mostly praised the song.

Lopez and Miranda are due to perform “Love Make The World Go Round” live next week. Today has the news.

“Music powerhouses Jennifer Lopez and Lin-Manuel Miranda are joining our summer concert series with a live performance of their new song ‘Love Make the World Go Round’ on Rockefeller Plaza on Monday. The duo collaborated to record the song as a tribute to the victims of the Pulse nightclub shooting in Orlando.”

Jennifer Lopez, Lin-Manual Miranda, and Christina Aguilera aren’t the only acts recording a song to benefit Orlando victims. According to Rolling Stone, Britney Spears, Selena Gomez, and others have also released a new song.

“Britney Spears, Adam Lambert, Gwen Stefani and Selena Gomez are a few of the contributors to a new single that pays tribute to the victims and families of the Orlando massacre. Proceeds from the star-studded track, titled ‘Hands,’ will be donated to the Equality Florida Pulse Victims Fund, the LGBT Community Center of Central Florida and GLAAD,” writes columnist Brittany Spanos.

Rolling Stone adds that Justin Tranter, Julia Michaels, and BloodPop co-wrote “Hands,” with Tranter and BloodPop serving as the co-producers with Mark Ronson. The song has received mostly positive reviews, but hasn’t made an impact on iTunes or other charts yet.
