Nicolas Cage Signs On For William Friedkin’s ‘I Am Wrath’

Nicolas Cage, the internet’s favorite nutty actor, has signed on to star in Exorcist director William Friedkin’s upcoming action/thriller I Am Wrath, according to First Showing. The film finds the actor treading into familiar territory, portraying a guy who’s out to avenge his loved one. Sound familiar? You may have recently watched Seeking Justice, which hit DVD and Blu-ray not too long ago. But, I digress.

Specifically, I Am Wrath finds Nicolas Cage portraying a man who sets out to avenge the murder of his wife after the police effectively botch the job. During his quest to locate the killer, he discovers that all sorts of corruption is taking place behind-the-scenes. Although the film doesn’t sound overwhelmingly original, it could prove to be quite the ride in the hands of someone like Friedkin. Even if the flick is an absolute wash, chances are audiences will be dazzled by Cage’s ability to transform even the simplest scenes into full-blown emotional freak-outs.

In other Cage casting news, the Con Air star will join forces with Pineapple Express director David Gordon Green for the Southern drama Joe. According to Indiewire, the picture is being billed as the story of “an ex-con who becomes the unlikeliest of role models to 15 year old Gary Jones, the oldest child of a homeless family ruled by a drunk, worthless father. Together they try to find a path to redemption and the hope for a better life in the rugged, dirty world of small town Mississippi.”

If these films aren’t enough to satisfy your cravings for Nicolas Cage-related cinema, then the actor’s upcoming thriller Frozen Ground should do the trick. Not only does the film star Cage as a man bent on tracking down a serial killer, John Cusack and a pole-dancing Vanessa Hudgens have signed on, as well.
